PSA: store bought inflatable rafts are not meant to go white water rafting in.

OutHouse

Lifer
so a guy at my company (tech support) had a brilliant idea of buying a inflatable raft. Last weekend he had a even more brilliant idea of rafting down the Colorado River with his girlfriend in newly bought raft.

the river won.

he has a broken leg and his gf nearly drowned.

he also has to pay for the rescue because the high mountain rescue team had to launch rafts up stream and raft down to him, put him in their rafts and continue on down river to a waiting ambulance.... he is lucky other people on the river saw what happend, a couple of them stayed with them on the bank of the river and others went for help...

dumbasses.

Did anyone warn him that store bought inflatable rafts aren't meant for white water rafting?

And yes, they are dumbasses and insanely lucky to be alive.

I'm been rafting lots of times. A powerful river can pick up a fully loaded 12 person professional raft and launch it 20 feet in the air. That's over a ton getting tossed around like a rag doll. It's truly monumental dumbassery to try it in a cheapo raft.

He should sue the raft manufacturer. Ill bet there isn't a warning label on there 😉

Bet there is and the idiot did not read it. That one is to obvious to slip pass the lawyers plus it has had to have happened at least once before.

Are you serious?

We need to have an entrance examination before we allow people into this state.

That and we need to have exams before people are permitted to camp or do any other outdoor activities. I have run into some serious dumbasses out here.

Once some friends and I probably stopped what could have easily been a huge forest fire in RMNP caused by a big kerosene fire started by this guys wife pouring kerosene directly into a fire. They proceeded to try to put it out with water and towels and had it spread all over. I hate to think what would have happened if we hadn't been camping near them.

"Caution: Not for use as a flotation device. Do not use in or near water."
That should cover them pretty well 😛

Instead of all the useless course they teach in college, perhaps they should teach a class in common sense.
