The Imax/Religion thread is a perfect example of my coming mini rant.

People here often come to the same conclusions as the "oppostion".

I havent seen anyone argue for unrestricted rights, and neither have I seen that there should be NO rights.

Virtually everyone has come to the same effective conclusion, yet rants on everyone else who uses different justifications for it. That everyone agrees in the end doesnt matter as long as we can yell at each other. I do not hold myself blameless, but I AM trying to be civil. Try it.

This applies to so many other things, it's amazing, yet we get no consensus because we would rather "be" right than to learn what right is.

I now return you to your normally scheduled chaos.

Mini rant over.

Dude you are so right but for all the wrong reasons! You nit-wit! The way you came to this conclusion was totally wrong.

For bonus points, read the earlier posts in a thread before adding your own post.

In the many Schiavo threads, you can see 3-4 people come in to paste the exact same allegations they've read on a right-to-life site, without bothering to see they've already been posted and refuted. If the person disagrees with the countering evidence they should say so and give a reason, instead of re-pasting the original allegation.

(Which is not claiming either side is right, just that it's rude to ignore what has already been covered and start over at the beginning because you're too lazy to follow the existing conversation.)

No  for me tonight, studying for YACA. (Yet another certification exam.)

But Winston is right: it just isn't any fun to wade through long posts wherein everybody attacks the posters instead of analyzing and exposing the weaknesses of their ideas. And it seems to be a kind of binary with-us-or-against-us kind of thing, like you can't possibly agree with so-and-so because he's a dirty whatever. No critical thinking involved.

It should be pointed out that the somewhat opposite also occurs. At least 1-2 years ago when this forum was 90% Iraq War discussion.

I somewhat described it before, but you never heard a war supporter disagree with another supporter even though they were worlds apart on why they supported it. As long as they both supported it, regardless of the fact that they supported it for different reasons, they would never voice any disagreements.
