I purchased a Sony TRV460 camcorder about three years ago to use as a VCR to transfer old home videos to my computer. About a year later, I tried to record some new footage, but the only thing that it would record was a blank screen (and no, the lens cap was not on, thank you).
Flash forward to today... I was about to throw the camera out, when I decided to do a quick Google search to see if anyone else had a similar problem. Sure enough, lots of people did. I don't know how I missed it, but apparently Sony had a huge CCD recall that affects many of their digital cameras and camcorders. Good thing for me, as I now have a replacement camcorder on its way, compliments of Sony.
Maybe I was the only one that missed it, but I urge anyone that has had a problem with Sony cameras and faulty CCDs to check out the Sony CCD Recall site. It saved me $400, and may just help you out as well. Peace.
