Original series is my all time favor, Beauty music, awesome story, kick ass physic(the way the missiles fly)

I am hoping they can make a Macross 2 with the original cast.

And please keep them human.

Lisa Hayes is way up there on my list of bangable cartoon characters (bonus: she's human!). Not so sure I want them messing with that.

And how will they handle that Fokker's hair?! Or Admiral Gloval and his pipes and hat and voice?

Not to be too snarky, but how can ruin a franchise that smashed together 3 different animes into a single series?

Pretty much this. My first exposure was an few years old (at the time) OVA series Macross Plus.

there is no Robotech if you go by the source material.

Macross was a seperate series from Southern Cross or Genesis Climber: Mospeada (invid installment)

timeline is roughly

Macross Zero (takes place during the Unification Wars in which the U.N. is the good guy... Hence the U.N. Spacey Logo that you can see on the gunpods of the Earth Mecha.)

Macross the one that became part of Robotech

Macross Plus

Macross 7 (very close to Macross Plus such that they may overlap a bit)

Macross Frontier (very much fan service to the original Macross as during the course of this series there are situations that are callbacks to events from Macross)

There are also movies most notable is Macross: Do You Remember Love which due to time constraints picks up with the SDF-1 on it's way back to earth instead of starting where the series started. A bit of trivia it is also one of the earliest examples where they took care to make sure the animation was actually lip-synced to the words.

Macross: DYRL - One Vision AMV
^an example of an anime music video (videos where fans set anime scenes to music by rather well known music artists some are actually very excellent). Has spoilers if you're not familiar with the series... but if you know the series you know the basic plot of the movie.

Due to disagreements over the U.S. rights to the above with Harmony Gold and other parties you'd be hard pressed to obtain legal copies unless you have a multi-region player and buy imported Blue Rays or DVDs

See my post earlier. At start of season Rick was 19, Minmei 15, Lisa 24, Roy 34 maybe. Those cast would be horrible choices.

According to the Americanized version those were the ages...

So many people died during the Unification Wars in the Japanese version that young males in their teens were recruited as soldiers toward the end....

So in the Japanese version at the start of the series

Hikaru Ichijo (Rick) was 16

Misa Hayase (Lisa) was 19

Lynn Minmay wasn't much younger than Hikaru

Roy Fokker was about 30

Max Jenius was actually about 14 or 15 at the time of his first appearance.

Hopefully if the movie is made they stay closer to the original source material... although they probably will adjust the ages.

.....

All these animes turning to live-action films would be better if the writers and producers acknowledged the fact that adaption to live-action should be firmly based on reality. When possible, the characters should be different and so should the themes, while sticking to the original story, or close to it. There's nothing worse/pathetic than seeing stunts that should only be the reserve of cartoons. No more one-to-one adaptations, please.

I don't know aside from some superheroic constitution instances; for the most part Macross is pretty realistic. That is, of course as much as a series about an Alien Warship crashlanding on earth then humans reverse engineering weapons systems from it can be "realistic"....

I get the impression that all Sony really wanted was Macross, but they had to buy the U.S. rights to all three from Harmony Gold.

What about Lynn-Kyle? I hated that ass hat.
Minmei was annoying.

Roy's death was hard on me as a little kid. Couldn't believe I saw a character I like die on a cartoon.

Macross was better.

I hope it's not directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Walhberg (The guy that beat a homeless asian almost to death)

That would make a lot of sense. Get all the sub-licenses at once so that you can release the resulting product globally.

technically southern cross was part of the super dimension series.
super dimension fortress macross
super dimension century orguss
super dimension calvary southern cross

they were supposed to be part of the same universe. genesis climber mospeada was a separate series but like sdfm also a tatsunoko production.

DYRL pretty much showed you could do away with the fluff and other nonsense and make a good movie out of the primary macross story/trio. assuming sony intends on making a serious movie, you can ditch most of the macek drivel and still have something watchable.

yall need to do more self translating.

Half the people here are cartoon snobs and act like they knew better when they were 7 years old and there was no other anime being shown here. They also like to go on about how the original plot was a bit of master genius or something.

Same people who pounded down Busch Light and cheap burgers from McDonald's but you know they would never admit to that now.

true.

robotech was great...for the time.

I would love ot see a redo of the series using today's animation. I just loved the concept that Robotech had.
