What kind of fees are you guys paying on "free" airfare booked using airline points? I'm assuming most of you who transfer Chase UR or Amex points are using it to fly international routes. Korean Air wanted $400 in fees per person to fly to Japan. I find that absurd when I can buy discounted economy flights to Japan for under $1k without using any points.
As noted it varies a lot by country\alliance\airline. There is a somewhat deep dive into it
here. If just want to know what airlines don't charge fees beyond those imposed by governments you can jump
here. The fact that United doesn't charge excessive fees is one of the reasons I have spent far more United miles on international flights than any other mile over the last 5 years.
Brief recap:
NZ - United - $63 pp One Way
NZ - AA - $46.06 pp One Way

Edit for clarity: Those aren't necessarily the airlines flow but the airline miles used
