Go change your passwords.

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION CONCERNING YOUR TRION WORLDS ACCOUNT
We recently discovered that unauthorized intruders gained access to a Trion Worlds account database.

The database in question contained information including user names, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, email addresses, billing addresses, and the first and last four digits and expiration dates of customer credit cards.

There is no evidence, and we have no reason to believe, that full credit card information was accessed or compromised in any way. We have already taken further action to strengthen our systems, even as we, with external security experts, continue to research the extent of the unauthorized access.

You will notice on your next log in to our website that you will be required to change your password, and existing Mobile Authenticator users will also need to reconnect their Authenticator. When you log in, you will be prompted to provide a new password, security questions and answers, and be given the option to connect your account to our Mobile Authenticator to enhance your account’s security.

If you have used your username and password for other accounts, especially financial accounts or accounts with personal information, we suggest you change your passwords on those accounts as well. We recommend that you carefully review your statements, account activity, and credit reports to help protect the security of those accounts. If you need information on how to obtain your credit report or believe any such accounts have been breached, please see below for more information.

Yeah, I saw it on MMOC, and it made me wish that I never tried out that WoW clone. :|

With all these sites being hacked, I'm running out of passwords, god damnit!

Get a program like KeePass. It will generate and store passwords for you of a random nature so that you don't have to use the same one twice.

Just noticed I got the email as well. I'm always getting Blizzard emails about my account being hacked or something, but I haven't played WoW in years. Was wondering if this Trion one was legit?

Exact same thing here - in fact the email I got was in my spam folder, so I figured it a fake until I checked all the links in it and verified with a friend that he too also received it.

Hmmm I know some people that use software similar to this (password storage), but my only worry would be that I'm in a place where I cannot use my phone or the software (i.e. work) and need to get on a site for whatever reason.

Maybe I'll have to give it a shot sometime. It can't hurt anymore than these leaks do. :p

Yeah, I got that email too. Canceled and deleted game long time ago. CC I used at the time to pay for it is canceled and long gone as well. I'm not worried really. A shame they got hacked though. WoW clone or not it was a fun game. I just got too burned out on MMOs to play them any more.

I was wondering how my account got hacked. Now I know. For reference I played rift for about 5 weeks after release. I paid for 6 months but then decided I was bored and didn't like anymore. So I quit playing. A few months later I completely redid my computer and such. I didn't reinstall the game or anything. Just let it sit there unplayed. So about 3 weeks before my subscription expires I start getting emails about the coinlock for the game and notifications about playing. I call Trion directly and they told me someone is playing my account right now. I said it's not me and I haven't played the game in months. So they reset the account back and I changed the PW.

Seems as if it was from this cause I had hard time figuring out how else my account could have been compromised at the time.

That's a shame, good thing I just started the trial and haven't input a credit card yet.

I would like to say, though, that this game rocks and is 10X better than WoW. Best MMO I've ever played.

Another recommendation for Keepass - it's portable and is awesome at creating random passwords.

That's too bad RIFT was hacked though.. in this day and age - if you cancel an account I guess you need to change your name, address, remove cc, etc... :(

I fail to understand why this is still going on.
Don't companies pay attention, until it is too late?
Why the heck is billing info not encrypted in this day and age?

But to access those passwords you just need a master password to get into your database? That doesn't sound secure if that's how it works, plus if you're cutting and pasting your password that brings up other issues.

They need to have options like "delete my account and any info you've collected from me for the process". It's absolutely ridiculous to have all these companies storing all this info after you've left them.

I originally bought the game on release because friends raved about it, played for about 2 months with a 6 month sub, then realized how meh it was so i cancelled. I liked the souls system for storing a dozen combos for specs, but it didn't keep me interested.
