PSA: Resumes

When you send in a resume, please, please, please make sure you do a spell check and a review for grammatical errors. I hate tossing an otherwise good resume because you didn't feel it was important enough to check your work. Thank you.

Thanks. 😀 Hey, CPA, would you mind doing a review of my resume? I'm about to send off resumes and cover letters to PwC, Deloitte, and E&Y and I'd love to make sure it looks okay.

Who needs spell check when the human mind can take care of it for you:

THE PAOMNNEHAL PWEOR OF THE HMUAN MNID.

the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef,
but the wrod as a wlohe.

Amzanig huh?

I thought everyone knew that.

seeing a spelling mistake is pretty bad... it's very easy to make sure everything is spelled right.

On the other hand, I think it's annoying how resumes are tossed out just because of spelling mistakes. I know lots of smart people who for some reason or another just happen to suck at spelling. It's just a shame how that works.

You don't have to be a good speller to come up with a resume that has no spelling errors. I think most spelling errors in resumes are probably typos, and simply reading your own resume would be enough to catch it. For the rest... if you don't know how to spell a word, maybe you should reconsider using it in your resume.

spellcheck is important i'll concede

but what really gets their goat is a full scale profile scan of your penis between your hobbies and reference sections

I am not a denizen of HR. In fact, the resumes came AFTER HR reviewed them. I am the hiring manager. If you can't use proper spelling and grammatics in your resume, then what can I expect in your actual work?

This is one thing I've always hated about companies. I'm a computer guy, not a fVcking english major. If you are going to judge my technical knowledge and abilities based on the fact that I may have spelled one word incorrectly out of 23498572034987502348 then you're a jackass...ESPECIALLY IF YOU TOSS THE DAMN THING WITHOUT EVEN READING THE REST OF IT!!! Oh, but feel free to hire some tool with a fancy resume that he probably paid $300 for, yet doesn't know the difference between a hard drive and a garden hose.
