The amazing thing about the computer is it still works. I'm truly amazed nothing caught fire in it.

For clarification, this isn't my computer. This is a family member?s computer that I was volunteered to fix. There's no way in hell I'd let anything of mine get like that.

Pretty bad... but when I worked at a computer store in HS I saw worse. Didn't bring a camera to work just to take pics though, heh.

its still a pentium 2

P2 333, 128MB ram with win2k & Norton SystemWorks 2003. Took minutes to start up the first time I tried it. Once I got rid of Norton things were much faster.

I know the feeling. And it's really not how clean your house is. We keep a decently clean house, but my wife's eMachines Celery 366 was in almost as bad a condition as yours. Over time these things just attract more and more dust. I used a whole bottle of air in a can to clean it. Works great BTW.

The computer case can help a lot. My apartment collects a lot of dust quickly, but the inside of my computer case is rarely as dusty as the outside.

I've seen that several times with computers that came from our remote locations. I whip out the compressed air and go to work when they make it into the office for repairs or whatever.

Here's the thing, just about everything in that house that hadn't moved for more than week was like that. There was enough dust/dirt on some things that they could be classified as an archeological dig site of ancient minature civilizations. The amount of dog hair that was pulled out from the fridge was enough to make several small dogs worth.

WTF!

that is clean compared to the machines that i have around my office building. they sit on the carpet with lots of traffic. the last one i cracked open had so much dust you could not see any details on the MOBO.

It's my uncle's camera actually and it's an AGFA ephoto cl30 clik. Clicky. Granted not the greatest camera, but it gets the job done.

I've seen lots worse than that! I used to work at a publisher where we used Mac Quadra 950s; a superb computer and a damned fine air purifier. Something about the case design made the fans blow huge amounts of crap into the machine. Sometimes the cases would be literally half filled with dust and lint. They always ran, though.

Right now I have 6 NT boxes out on our shop floor that run a Telnet client and our time-clock software. The welders and grinders kick out tons of black metallic dust that gets everywhere - do any kind of work on those boxes and you'll be filthy for the rest of the day. I have them sealed pretty well and they're holding up OK. A couple of them haven't been rebooted in over a year.

Pentium 2's kick ass. I used to have a 400mhz and after a bunch of years the fan on the CPU broke. Know what happened? Nothing, it didn't make one bit of difference, still runs like a champ today. That's opposed to todays processors that have a heart attack when the ideal cooling setup isn't in place.
