I got my wife "The Hobbit: Extended Edition" on Bluray as a Christmas present. It came with a card for a digital copy through UltraViolet that you can redeem online through Flixster. However, I couldn't find Flixster or UltraViolet in the Roku channel listing, so I had to do a little research.

Apparently UltraViolet can also act as a media storage backend (i.e. cloud server, like Netflix), and then use approved players to stream the movie from. VUDU is one of those approved players and is available for Roku. So all you have to do is redeem the code at VUDU and then it will show up in the VUDU channel on your Roku. The redemption webpage for UltraViolet on VUDU is here:

http://www.vudu.com/ecopy.html

In a nutshell:

1. Get the UltraViolet code (included on a sheet with the movie)
2. Visit the VUDU eCopy website above
3. Search for the movie (in this case, there was The Hobbit, The Hobbit Pre-release, and The Hobbit: Extended Edition, so make sure you choose the right one)
4. Redeem the code
5. Sign up for an UltraViolet account (free; the VUDU website will prompt you)

I was interested in getting the digital copy because I don't have my Bluray player hooked up anymore and just use MakeMKV to throw the movies on my server, but we wanted to watch it right away without having to go find the (horrible) disc player & hook it up, wait through endless advertisements, and then wade through a crummy GUI, or wait for the movie to convert on the computer.

I am already not a fan of the UltraViolet process. It's far too complicated (UltraViolet? Flickster? VUDU?) and there are no clear instructions. I had to do quite a bit of reading to figure out how to get my UltraViolet movie even play on my Roku. Now that I'm all set up, it's cake - punch in the code on the VUDU eCode page & I'm done. The process could be cleaner though - they should take notes from Netflix, convenience = more customers! Haha.
