PSA: Poseidon

just in case anyone else didn't know...

the first three letters of the title pretty much sum up this movie...

I want my 90 minutes back... 🙁

hmmmm i actually liked it when i saw it at theaters (no, i didn't pay to see it. wouldn't risk that. watched it with passes since i work there)

Oh my they REALLY botched it up with the screws turning at the end.

Azipods will shut down immediately if they come out of the water since a screw spinning in air has much less resistance and will overspeed. Tunnel bow thrusters would not be engaged and even if the controls were shorted out those 500kW motors need power from somewhere. I guess movies have to be phony as real life is kind of boring.

Of course I have a real life experience of a 75 foot rogue wave hitting a ship and I can tell you it's quite different than anything Hollywood has depicted thus so far. 🙂

Do tell!

I thought it was ok, but nowhere near great. There were several things in the plot that I thought were illogical or incorrect. I'm really sick and tired of seeing "whiney kids who wander away at the worst possible time" in movies.

Yea but it's a mute point, how many movies really are realistic are few and far between. I once heard a guy saying that a movie was lame cause it defied physics, and it was a sci-fi movie too.

Some people take the movies too seriously. But I understand you point Ms Dawn, it can ruin a movie if you know a lot about how things should work. But most of the public is ignorant.

Another thing - the breaking of the windows.

This would never happen

The windows are fire tempered and would never start cracking like that. Tempered glass is either in one piece or shattered into fragments. The tempering is about 12,000 psi which is quite strong. If struck or stressed enough (frame flexing from a dock collision will do it) the glass will shatter with the percussion of a hand grenade going off. It's quite unpleasant to be in a cabin (especially asleep!) if this happens. Fortunately the glass will break into chunks about the size of craps die instead of long arrowhead shards so the chance of getting life threatening lacerations is very remote. After such an incident one remembers to check their shoes before slipping them on and reporting to muster! :Q
