Does it detail the invention of the peg leg? Probably the single greatest piece of pirate technology to come about.

I've got a peg leg. I found it in 70 feet of water off the California coast.

I guess I'm an hour late to this thread. That would've been interesting to watch. :(

Here's the story. We were diving off the coast of Fort Bragg, CA. We were about to head in but the boat's anchor was stuck. I had to don a tank again and dive down to free it up. I followed the anchor line to the bottom and freed up the anchor. Sitting on the rocks next to the anchor was what appeared to be a stainless steel peg leg.

So we went around about an hour that evening curious as to what this thing was. It was all stainless and had a large stainless ring on it where it might be affixed to someones stump. Then it had two stainless rods going 30 inches to the end where it formed some type of a hook. The rods were separated by tubing every 6 to 8 inches. We finally figured you put your hand thru the metal ring and grip one of the tubes. This provides you with a longer hand with a claw on the end.

So it turns out that it is a tool used by commercial divers to harvest sea urchins. I still call it the peg leg and introduce it as such at first. But really it's just a tool used by commercial divers. People lose lots of stuff in the ocean.
