AMEN!
< Personal Horror story.....
Have gig for July 4th celebration in Santa Clara. I need to haul 2 PA systems there from San Rafael. U-Haul is less than 500 yards from my warehouse door. Too easy... Lesson #1
I go to San Rafael U-Haul and made a reservation with the manager 10 days before the gig, just to make sure I got a truck. It's the first of the month, holiday so I didn't want any BS.
" No Problem" say the mangler..... RIIIGHT....
Show up on the 3rd (the day it's reserved for, through the 5th), stand in a short line for 15 minutes while the woman behind the counter yaks it up with another unfortunate soul. She's going on about an ex manager there that she had problems with, talking smack like "What do you expect from a i love you?", etc.
Get to front of line, she take reservation from me, looks at it and says "This is wrong" I'm like "WTF?" How can it be wrong? You rent trucks right, Daily right" She says" but not for more than one day" WTF!!!??? Anyway, suffice it to say, she goes to manager who is in back room, comes back and says "he's made an exception for you" I'm still "BS, this is a contract to deliver a truck for me to rent for the time stated on the reservation, with a CASH PENALTY if I cancel. If you do not rent me a truck, I'm going to small claims court."
I get a truck, looks like they stored an engine block on the front seat, there is at least 8 inch gap between the seat and back rest, so I'm sitting at an angle. The tranny slips, there's no AC, the mirrors fold back at 45 mph, brakes grab.
I went back after driving it down the block and finding all this crap with it and the manager has left, the mechanic can't find the fuse box.
I drove to the gig, the promoter , who was paying for it, was livid.
To top it all off, they charged .59 / mile. I put almost 200 miles on it going down to Santa Clara and Back.
the $19.00 / day rate is a sucker bet , to get you in the front door. Then they stick you with crappy unsafe equipment and charge you up the A$$ for mileage.
I complained to Corporate through the website, after speaking to the Manager. He was going to send me $30.00 of U-Haul bucks for my next rental, but he never sent them.
The Marketing Company President, Victor Vanegas, was supposed to call me, to set things right, according to the CSR person, but he never did.
When I called back last week to find out what's the deal with the hold up on the bucks, another CSR got me $40.00 of U-Haul bucks in 48 hours. She needs to find another company to represent. She obviously outclasses even her boss.
Moral of the Story.......
U haul sucks the biggest load .....
