I tried explaining to my girlfriend how to install a netgear wireless router over the phone. The problem is that it doesn't come with two ethernet cables, and it doesn't come with the wireless enabled. By the end of the conversation she was yelling at me, and she was almost crying. Damn it I hate long distance relationships.

lol. No phone 4 u.

In all seriousness, network setups should be done in person.

Unless the person on the phone wants to install the included CD, and go through wizards, etc.

How do you explain to someone what a crossover cable is, and why it will work with their old router but not their new one?

On a side note, I had a buddy of mine pickup a Linksys wireless G router from Wal-Mart a few months back, and offered to set it up for him.

Long story short, I could not access this router, until running the included disc on the machine in question. Needless to say I was quite pissed. Took me a good 10 minutes of "WTF this is the ip address of this router...work", before I relented and ran the damn disc.

After that good to go, from any machine in the house. Weird.

Tried...didn't work.

After I ran the disc, I could get in via HTTP from any computer in the home. Before running the disc on 1 machine, no one could get in.

Maybe they sent wal-mart a "special" version, that required the router to interface with the software, before accessing via HTTP? Only thing I can think of really.
