What a turd of a website. Embedded video ads that auto play with sound will ruin your day real quick.

The last article I tried to read on that dumpster fire, the site crashed my browser. Stay away!

I've not gone there since they forced you to disable adblockers to read any of their content earlier this year. That's extremely reckless on today's Internet. There were immediately reports of computers being infected with malware after visiting the pages without a blocker enabled. Then they backtracked and said it was all just a test. A test. Literally infecting unsuspecting readers with malware so they could collect some data points to plot.

Good riddance.

I sometimes get links for them on my Google news syndication but close them once I see the adblock warning come up.

Yeah, I stopped going there once they started blocking ad blockers. I haven't really missed it, either.

Sorry... but if you block my ad blocker, I boycott your site.

I haven't read Forbes since doing research in school. They were always long on opinion and short on facts.

Wonder if it was the decision of some techie or some higher-up.

Cost-benefit analysis was surely incomplete.

There is a way to block them from detecting your ad-block. Special little script if I remember right.

It wouldn't be hard to gt around. I run noscript but for some pages you can't read anything with it on. I have a bare virtual machine on a different vlan that I'll read some stuff on.

The thing is there is literally nothing good to read on forbes.

I go there if I have to - as in discussing stuff online like in P&N or on FB and someone posts a Forbes link as their source. It counts down 3 seconds then lets you click through to the article. Not so bad on the occasional use.

But is is worth the effort? I can count the number of stories on one hand from that site that were actually worth reading over the past few years. Most of it was blog spam or viral marketing.

Seriously, they're like the business equivalent of Buzzfeed.

That site is pure garbage now. They don't even let you in if you have an ad blocker and there is no way I am going to go through the trouble of disabling it to get in. Simply adding an exception is also not enough, I think it actually checks to see if you have the extension installed.

Amusing that they have a problem with ad blockers, and display the most egregious form of advertising that the most tolerant users wouldn't tolerate :^D

I just looked up a few articles on Forbes and didn't have trouble with obtrusive ads. Theres just one auto video ad on the sidebar which can be stopped easily since its not hidden at the bottom or off screen or something sneaky like that.

I avoided it already because the articles are more useless than the name would make you think and the quote of the day is a waste of time even if I don't see the ad.

The problem with sites that block users using adblockers is that those sites are terrible anyway. It means they are too bloated and/or entrenched in old ways to change their revenue model. Users that enjoy your site because you provide content will gladly support it if you give them a reasonable way to do so. Putting up a bunch of crappy ads isn't the best option. That's just a good way to eventually alienate your readers/users, especially if you essentially escalate it to an arms race where you block the blockers and force them to either go elsewhere or figure out how to circumvent your blocking of their blocking.

At the very least be selective with ads, and only directly partner with businesses you know sell products and services your readers might be interested in instead of being promiscuous with your acceptance of ad partners and networks. *elbows Purch/Anandtech*

How does it know ad blocker is on? I'm amazed ad blockers aren't stealthy yet
