what is the difference between this and the normal thumbnail view you can get of jpeg images in XP?

You can't view RAW files in XP that way.

Doesn't let you save as another file type...that kind of sucks...hopefully that will come in a later version.

I also don't see any mention of tools for adjusting various parameters for those raw files (exposure, sharpness, white balance, etc.).

Still, it is nice to have the ability to view thumbnails of the RAW files instead of having to open them up in EOS Viewer.

FYI: You also need to have SP2 installed and during the installation, it installs a bunch of .NET stuff.

GT, how does this compare to the Canon THM file reg hack? I currently use this and Windows Explorer is able to view the THM files when I'm viewing my directories. It doesn't show the actual RAW, but the .THM files are displayed properly. Plus, this registry hack is only 1KB in size. :p I grabbed this file off of dpreview.com a while ago...probably a year now or so.

Here is a sample screenshot I took just now.

this apparently lets you open up the raw images larger than a thumbnail view i imagine. i have the raw THM hack as well, but i still have to open everything up in photoshop to see full size view

But isn't the purpose of RAW to allow the most post-processing and tweaking? That is why I personally shoot RAW. I like the THM hack so I can see which CRW (Canon RAW) I'm going to open in Photoshop. Adobe also has a nice viewer/browser, but that eats up a lot of memory.

My RAW images don't always look the best out of the camera, but it's during post-processing when I like my ability to play with the photo.

Which cameras do you guys shoot? I'm a newbie Canon Rebel 300D shooter, but I really like shooting! :D

I have an EOS-20D. But I still shoot mainly in JPEG. I don't shoot RAW often because of 1) the larger file size, and 2) makes post processing feel like an even larger burden.

i also have a Drebel and have switching to about 95% RAW. it saves soo many shots since i'm still not a wiz at getting exposures dead on, especially when shooting inside

the problem i have with RAW is that people like to see all the pics i took in a quick slideshow...they don't want to sit around and watch me edit them all , i can do that later.

so i like the idea of having MS natively support a slideshow of raws. once i show them to everyone, then i can go through one by one in photoshop and edit them...then i usually convert them to a finished jpg or tiff for printing.

as far as post processing, it *is* a burden. i've been on the lookout for some automated scripts to do it for me, but haven't found much. neeed to find a way to quicken my process flow.

I shoot exclusively in RAW with my 1GB card. Makes it easier to adjust white balance/exposure/etc in Photoshop.

Hm, when I get home tonight, I'll post some pics I took of Itasca State Park...

Also, do you guys edit on CRT or LCDs? I just picked up a Sony E210 Trinitron 17" monitor to try out to see if I like dual-monitors...so far, it's kinda weird...I'm very use to LCDs now, but there are times when my colors and contrast are a bit odd because of the LCD.

Though, switching to Adobe 1998 colorspace in Photoshop has helped greatly at getting my colors more accurate during post-processing.

Well, it's about time. I've always wanted the ability to just browse my .NEF files in Explorer instead of having to open up my imaging program. Now Microsoft has come to the rescue with their RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer.

LMFAO

Cheers Brandon

Nice, now if i just wasn't on dial up I could get this.

How do you check if you have the .NET 1.1 stuff already installed, if not i'll have to
download it as well.

It was where I thouht it was, under the add/remove programs utility in the settings menu.

Brandon, do you use Nikon Capture any ? For the Curves and whatnot ?
