i thought it meant "i call myself" since me is the object of llamo.

This. Llamarse is a reflexive verb meaning "to call". Llamo is 'I call'. The 'me' in "Me llamo" means 'me' or 'myself'. "Me llamo" is 'I call myself'.

This is in line with the other verb forms and the familiar command form would be 'llame' so if you wanted to tell your friend to call you you could say 'me llame' or 'llámeme', though I believe the latter is better "book spanish".

I don't think "me llame" is the correct way to ask your friend to call you. The right way should be "me llama" or "me llamas" (informal).

Mi no sabe mucho...:p

Personally, I don't give two-shits if my Spanish is correct or not. If I was in Mexico, Spain, or some other Spanish-speaking country, MAYBE I'd do a better job of learning...but in the US of A...fuck them...let them learn English.

In much of the US English is not the "official" language. In fact in few states Spanish is recognized as an official language alongside English.

Which brings us full circle to the fact that "I call myself" is synonymous with "My name is". Therefore: "Me llamo" means "My name is" for all intents and purposes, given typical usage of the vernacular. Ergo: OP needs to get over himself.

It does not mean My Name Is.
Thats why you dont need es at the end. It would be saying I am called is. Which of course is fucking hella gay.

The proper way to say My Name Is would be Mi nombre es. Having said that, in most spanish speaking countries that is the wrong way to introduce yourself and will often confuse people.

actually it means "i call myself".

"I am called" would be "se me llama" I think, being that there is no subject, it's a passive sentence.

the command form instructing someone to call you is llámeme or llámame depending on how formal you would like to be; the indirect object typically does not appear before the verb in command form, except as a negative.
"no me toques"
"bésame"
