Thank goodness I picked up a Dell C400 I found a good deal on. Yesterday I was going to take my Core 2 Duo machine to a friend's place for a LAN party, and the case was one of those Linkworld ones with the handle on top.

I was talking on the phone with one hand and didn't even notice I was friggin' SWINGING the case while I was talking. Handle broke off and the computer fell to the pavement with the worst sound I've ever heard. Everything except the RAM, PSU, and HDD is wrecked. The HSF unit broke off the socket and a pin broke off the CPU. The video card snapped off in its slot. Even the DVD burner seems toast, the tray won't open.

R.I.P. :(

^^ this is true.

It does remind me of when I was taking out my 6800 from my dfi board and broke a cap. fixed the cap but it never worked. waved goodbye to $350.

I think that case you got there sucks.

core 2 duos dont have pins!!!!!!!!

You're right, slip of the tongue. The socket itself is busted from the Artic Freezer 7 being attached when it fell. The chip itself LOOKS okay but it won't seat in a board I borrowed from someone else. Something's clearly bent/broken on the chip itself.

edit:

Obligatory: Pics or ban?

What do you want pics of? This happened yesterday, the broken crap is all thrown away. You want a picture of my hard drive, RAM, and PSU? If this is a shens thing, there's not much I can tell you. It's not much of a story.

Appreciate the pity, all, but I don't deserve it. I'm a moron, this thing's death is completely my fault.

sucks. I have one too, but I was lucky enough not to have a complete failure. just where it attaches towards the back of the case broke, so i didnt drop it.

What are those handles made out of? I equipped my PC with a handle. It's metal and held in place with 4 machine screws.

While I doubt I could swing my PC much (it has to weight at least 50lbs), I think the handle would still hold.

IIRC there isn't much you could physically break on a c2d. i guess you could have bent it, but it seems like in the event something gave (socket or hsf) the cpu would have stayed flush with either the mobo or the hsf. pics of cpu?

next time, settle for a better quality case like Antec/Cooler Master etc. and dont swing them as much.

Sorry gang. I genuinely don't have the busted parts anymore, and my first thought when I broke a 1500 dollar system wasn't "take pics of it!!"

In retrospect I can see calling shens since there's no pictures, I'm not gonna complain about the lack of faith in what I'm saying. Ya'll are just going to have to take me at my word or ban me.
