Burn them down. Torch the place. Don't worry about little signal fires ... set everything you see on fire and keep moving.

I've seen too many stories about couples/father and son/families getting stuck/lost in the woods in blizzards/hiking gone bad/river rafting in the middle of no where for me to not come to this conclusion. My advice to any of you who experience a situation similar to the Kim family or close to it is to start setting fires to get attention and keep out of its way. Life......potential repercussions for setting fires.....no brainer, to me.

and why why would you keep moving? i'll light a fire here and walk 2 miles to the east and light another fire. meanwhile the search party finds a small forest fire with no one around.
 
If the forest is dry and you started a fire, I think it would be hard to predict how the fire is going to behave. It would suck if it burned uncontrollably and overwhelmed you.
 
Easier said than done. If you can, stay with your vehicle, and start a signal fire if you have the means, but DO NOT WANDER OFF. Static, non-moving things are a lot easier to locate.
 
Best advice if you're lost in the woods:
Follow a river/stream/etc.

Streams lead to rivers.
Rivers lead to lakes.
Roads often cross rivers (at which point you can flag down a car)
Lakes often attract people and have a good chance of a road being nearby.
If a lake doesn't have a road, follow it's outlet.
If you get to an ocean, follow the beach one direction, eventually you're gonna hit something.

2) I said situations like the Kim's...obviously not where there is a blizzard are you to start burning wood in vain.

3) What, cars don't have lighters anymore?

4) Be prepared for a trip...carry the essentials

5) If you stay in one place in a fire, you will die. If you follow my advice and start a fire, keep moving.

6) Slash and burn, folks!
 
Yes, maybe you'll get to take some people with you to hell :evil:

Fires kill firefighters and destroy homes, even if you don't care about murdering the little bunnies and deerys and squirrellys and other Woodland Critters longing for their Christmas.

1) good luck lighting a wet tree on fire. logs have to dry before they burn easily.

3) cigarette lighters cost extra and most people don't get them

mine doesn't. well, i should say that it has the outlet, but no actual lighter. thats how it came brand new.
