Info PSA: If your disk I/O drops to near zero, you may have two A/V suites installed and conflicting; don't do that!

Just had this happen to a friend's mom. Had McAfee on system from OEM install, then added Norton, and somehow, McAfee Scanner from Flash Player download bundle.

Anyways, made a whole mess of trouble on the rig, mostly, after a few minutes of power-on, programs would stop responding, like the HDD was dying, or the system was throttling.

After checking both temps with HWMonitor for both CPU and GPU, and SMART data with CrystalDiskInfo, neither was true.

Had to run Norton Removal Tool, maybe in Safe Mode in Win7 64-bit, then uninstalled McAfee after a reboot, then ran McAfee Removal Tool too, found more gunk.

After removing both Norton and McAfee, system started being able to run and reboot normally. (Before it would essentially hang on shutdown / restart.)

Installed MS Security Essentials, and did some Windows updates, and finally the PC was good to go again.
