What is this ING thing? I'm doing a project on ING and would like to know. Is this some special referral deal for setting up an ING Direct account? How does it work? Is it competitive? Has the program been successful?

I'm serious. I know about the company and everything but I don't know why these accounts have been popular with the referral activity. The project is to compare the performance of ING Groep and UBS AG (one Dutch, one Swiss) and tie stock performance to specific strategic initiatives at each company. Project was assigned (I didn't pick companies myself--otherwise I would've opted for the Nissan vs. DaimlerChrysler pair.)
