It's better to learn when you have more people behind you to help out.

I love it when something shifts in your bag and the machine arbitrarily decides that you've added an item, so it tells you to remove said item...but you can't because THERE IS NO ITEM!!!!!1!

Aye. Maybe if you're slow enough, you'll piss one of them off and they'll do it for you. Sh!t, they might even pay!

Just add another item. =D Or, if you want to be fair about it, there's an employee supervising, so just yell at her.

I agree... I also think the limit should on the self checkouts should be even less than the Express lanes.

I've seen someone "self checkout" $200 in groceries.

Edit:
Oh...and... no checks, food stamps etc. Anything that requires human intervention. Hell, even most of the cashiers have problems processing them.

A Walmart was just built near my home in rural hillbilly Tennessee. The other day I had one item, so I decided to use the self checkout. Get this - our brand spankin' new Walmart doesn't have a single one. My wife and I joked that they probably thought the locals couldn't figure one out. A moment or two passed, then we simultaneously concluded that they were probably right.

what i love is the people that think their tomatoes actually have to be pressed onto the magnetic thing that cancels out the security devices inside the medicine packages.

PSA: don't use the self checkout if there are 9 people in line and then you won't have this problem.

How is the newbie supposed to know how many people might line up behind him/her?

I'm the same way. Used one once at a bi-lo. I hate them at walmart because they have a million registers in the middle that are never open and then they turned the express checkouts into these self checkouts. The one or two actual people occupied registers in what used to be the express area are no longer express either so you have billy joe bob with $500 worth of groceries, pregnancy tests, and hunting gear in line.

I just go to the garden dept. they rarely have a line and the old people out there are friendlier.

Just wiggle the bag holder. Clears the error right up.
