I cannot count how many voice messages I get in a week where I cannot understand the person's name and/or phone number.

I also love the people who leave REALLY slow messages, but say their number really fast (and only once).

When I leave a message, I open with my name, clearly and slowly and the subject matter of the call (i.e. "Regarding the Smith vs. Jones case"). I end the message with my name again and, then, at a normal speed, my number twice (with the second time slower than the first).

I hope that last message I just got was not important...

I always repeat my name, my company's name (if calling form work), and the number (slowly) at the end of the message after leaving it at the beginning of course. Just seems like common sense and courtesy to me.

1. This is why text messages are so much better than voice messages. No ambiguity, written record.
2. Holy shit I hate it when someone leaves an extremely long message and says their phone number once really fast at the very end. So if you replay the message you have to listen to all that unimportant shit again for 1-2 minutes first.

And then there is autocorrect for the LOLs.

So true. Luckily, my system at works has a skip-back (about 10-15 seconds). I will give someone three skip-backs on a name or number before I give up.

Many people lack this and, trust me, if you point it out to someone, they think you are the douche.

You should also leave your # in the beginning of the call. I hate it when I have to relisten to a VM to get the # and it's at the end of the recording. It helps so much when the caller starts the beginning of the message with their name and number (and once more at the end).

I am totally with you on this. Very annoying to play a message 5 times in a row just to hear a number thatwassaidsofasticantevenwhatthefuuuuuu

Like you said, name, company ( if applicable), phone number, brief message. repeat name, repeat number. number is 123 (pause) 456 (pause) 78 90.

I use to do that, but then people would stop it and call me without listening to the message. I purposely do not leave long messages and usually I just want a call back with specific information (which they won't have unless they listen to the message and look it up before calling me).

But I get your point.

I do the pause thing, too, maybe too much - I have had people say they thought I had passed out in the middle of the number.

I really hate when people do not say their name clearly, then I have to call them back and I sound like the idiot trying to identify the person I am speaking with.

"Hello, is this, um, Bindlesnarf?
"Sorry, who?"
"Ummm, Bindlesnarf?
"This is Brian."

Sure as hell didn't sound like Brian on your message, jerk! :colbert:

I hate the telephone.

Haha just had a voice mail today like this. Number went by too fast at the end of a 1+ mintue voice mail. Sorry buddy, guess you'll call back in like a week asking about it.

I don't even use voice mail. If they don't answer, I'll call back.

That's kind of annoying too. I'd a rather people just leave a brief message with name/number/reason for calling. I'm busy, so it's better to just have the information there so I can prepare the callback.

I hate this.

I leave a voice mail.

Friend calls me back, Sup, you called?

Ya... So sup? .... Did you listen to my voice mail? No. Well how about you do that.

I take it as disrespectful as either, they are just "too busy" to be bothered to listen to it or they are blantently wasting my time leaving one.

Why even set up your voice mail if you aren't going to check it?

I just got one of these myself today, can't understand any of the info and it was stated only once. If its important enough they'll call back I guess.

LOL. Reminded me of this odd/rude phone behavior. Luckily, I have not had to deal with that guy for a couple years.

I am amazed at all the people who mumble on the phone.
Even more amazed that if I ask them to repeat themselves a dozen times THEY STILL NEVER FUCKING LEARN!
ASSHOLES!

If I am leaving a voicemail for a business of some sort... I kind of expect that they have a notepad and pen in hand already. So I just go, "My name is X... " short pause "and my phone number is " very little pause "Five, four, four, one, two, three, four, five, six and I am calling about XYZ. Thanks, have a nice day."

Ah, I've done that a couple times... calling without checking the voicemail. Although usually I do it if I am calling them within 5 minutes of them having called me or if we've been playing phone tag. It's always annoying when they're like, "Did you listen to the message I left you?" "Nope. Sorry. I figured you didn't actually say anything." Because usually they don't fucking say anything except, "Hey it's X, call me back." There is a hundred variations on that one that all can have varying lengths. (I've had 1+ minute voicemails that could be summed up as short sentence)

No one wants to call you back anyway, so you can do whatever you want.
