PSA: Hybrid vehicles

Driving hybrid vehicles is not going to save the ecosystem nor will it get you laid by that hot chick you have had your eye on.

Get a real car, suck it up and pay for the gas.

Have a gassy day. 🙂

Reduce for now. Work on alternative "renewable" energy and tell the ME to fvck itself. Lots less bastage wars too.

You are correct, we should start drilling in alaska.

That will eventually cause MORE dependence on foreign oil. There's a finite amount of oil in the ANWR, and it's not going to last very long. Pretty soon we'd go crying back to the Saudis asking them to drill deeper. If anything, we'll be worse off for drilling in the ANWR.

Hybrids are a segue, not a total solution. I agree, we need other means of deriving our energy but that time is probably way off.

It's estimated to take a decade to reap any benefits from that. Also, estimated that it would be only a 6 month supply for the entire US although it would help. Again, oil is not he long term answer. Conservation is simply a bandaid. Remove oil and replace it with something else and you get rids of lots of world headaches, although you probably create a few in the process too.

Now is the best time. Imagine the economic boost from having a self made solution that you could sell to the rest of the world, at the same time boosting employment in the US while making that alternative? The sooner we can tell the ME to fvck off, the better. They can eat whatever oil they have left.

Oh well, I guess I should trade in my Civic Hybrid then if you say so. Too bad I only fill gas once on month while you gas guzzling SUVs need to fill up every week and spend over 10 minutes each time at over $50/tank.

No, you shouldn't (sarcasm meter isn't broke! 😛). The point is that's it's a good direction, but it's not a permanent solution (will anything ever be? Maybe...maybe not).

The experimental link above shows some promise. 80 to 250 mpg sure does sound yummy! Big oil will hate them though! :Q

We need to redesign our cities and urban centers so that people can walk to work instead of having to drive or take public transportation.

Why is it necessary to have dozens of megastory highrises all crammed together in small areas? Why not start moving the business centers out into the suburbs and rural areas where people can live within walking distance?

So many jobs can be done from home nowdays that a significant portion of commuters could just walk downstairs and log onto thei computers. Why not do it?

Somehow, I would think "redesigning cities" is easier said than done.

I guess since we already whored out on twin deficits, use eminent domain to buy out entire cities, tear them up, rezone/rebuild them.

In that case, I wonder if you'd use more fossil fuels redesigning/rebuilding cities as opposed to sitting in traffic for another 25 years.

Well, partly because people don't want to live near business centers. 😛
