Major Nelson - I remember this being an issue previously so I'm going to post this here and put it in the FAQ (where it will never get read but I can point to anyways).

# Sign in to Xbox.com and go to the My Account section.
# Click the Membership level link on the left.
# You?ll see a page that has your Membership level, and the end date. Under that, you?ll see your ?Automatic Renewal? status.
# If it reads ON (like the screenshot above) You can click the ON link and you?ll be brought to next page that will let you switch it on or off. (screenshot)
# Make your selection, then click next.
# You?ll be returned to your Membership level page, where you can confirm your selection (screenshot)

Yeah, we need to start pointing people towards the FAQ. I completely forgot about it until recently.

It says a lot about ATCG that we're willing to answer the same questions over and over and over again. :)

Man, I didn't even know it could be done that easily. I have two XBox Live! Gold accounts, and I keep forgetting to cancel the other one so it keeps getting renewed. :(

I had this problem with my original Xbox. My modded Xbox got banned from XBL, so I stopped using it, completely not thinking that it was my console that was banned, not my account itself. And I had also stupidly had that account auto-renew on a credit card that I never used.. Soooo.. For the next 11 months it was getting charged, and it wasn't until my credit card company called asking why I wasn't paying my bill (I didn't even realize I had a bill) I found out that my XBL was still active and being charged. I called MS and they agreed to refund me 4 of the 11 months, which considering it was my stupid mistake for the most part, I was ok with.

The easiest solution to this is to not use a credit card for your Xbox Live subscription in the first place, you can get far better deals on the prepaid cards. Of course this info is helpful is you did it anyway.

Yeah, it seems to me the prepaid cards are the way to go. At a minimum I get 10% off at Amazon.com and the current cards are good for 13 months anyway instead of 12.

Heh, this is recent that you can disable automatic renewal. I tried and tried back in the day to, I eventually just updated my credit card information with fake information and that FINALLY did the trick.

Yep. It was probably added when they took Live down for a day last month.
