I suppose I should start off by saying that I am not a high roller. I won't play more that $200 in vegas, but I have a couple friends that have gone through this, and I figured I would share what I know with a couple hundred of you guys.
So if you are willing to play $1000, the key is to cash it in for chips all at once. If you do it $200 at a time, then the pit bosses probably wont notice you. You don't even have to lose all this money. Just the fact that they see you cash $1000 gets their attention. They should take down your name.
The next step is to be able to play on this money for a few hours. If you are able to average $40-50 hands or more for the next 3-4 hours, you should get thoroughly noticed.
The key is to play at the same hotel, and to use their frequent players card. That way they know when you come back.
From what I've heard, this works at most Vegas hotels. The best examples are Ceasar's, MGM, New York, Luxor, and Paris. I would definitely stay away from Bellagio and Venetian, as I've heard that try as some people might, they have never gotten comped there.
That is all
