SeatGuru is an interesting site which has a breakdown of the insides of every airliner that the major carriers use - noting the best seats on the plane, which ones to avoid, which seats have power ports and even where in the plane it is that food and refreshments are served first.

http://www.seatguru.com/

I have no connection with the aforementioned website, this is really just a PSA that I thought people might find handy.

People use to talk about SeatGuru a lot in another forum that I frequented. China Airlines is not listed. EVA is not listed. Singapore is listed, but there's no more information in the map than what I could have determined from the maps on the airline Web site.

I began flying only non-economy international flights a few years ago (business or Deluxe, but I've been bumped to First a couple of times), and it makes flights to Asia a whole lot more pleasant. The bigger seat and room to move means a lot to me.

if they could tell me if a seat contained a kicking child or a 738lb gorilla, i would PAY to use their service.

(seriously, though, been using them for several years to tell me which seats had power ports.)

cool thanks, bookmarked.

It seems that sitting arrangments are getting smaller and smaller as the services available to use increase.
Are they hoping we dont notice.

Cool, OP, thanks for the link! Bookmarked...

Although it is a mixed blessing...I just found out I have one of the $hittiest seats on the plane for my flight to CA this weekend, and the only remaining available seats are the hated middle seats in the center of the plane. Dammit. :| Well, that'll be a fun 3+ hours.

For me, it doesn't really matter what seat I get. I will always get a seat, where the person in front of me must recline max position, making the seat tray in front of me useless, as my laptop can only open to 75 degree angle.

Along the same lines...I just stumbled on this. Pay $5 after you reserve your flight and they get you an "A" boarding pass, so you get on the plane first. Seems like a good deal, especially on crowded/full flights where people bring on giant carry on bags and take up all the overhead bins before the last people get to board.

But... it's only for Southwest airlines. Does anyone know if something like this exists for American, Spirit, or Northwest?

That's only for SWA because SWA doesn't assign seats. On airlines such as AA and Delta, they have assigned seats and board by zone, usually from back to front.

In general this is probably true...I've never flown SWA, so I'm unfamiliar with their procedures. However, I think most carriers have at least a few flights for which the seats are not assigned - I've actually got a flight scheduled for late October on Northwest, and it won't let me pick my seat, saying that the seats are assigned on check-in.

I guess this isn't common enough on the larger carriers to warrant this type of service?
