Saw the "monster honeycrisps" at Winco the other night. $1.99/lb...when all the other apples (fuji, braeburn, etc. ) were less than $.99/lb.
They still looked pretty good...although, IMO, Winco only gets produce seconds...not the best quality.

Jumbo sized apples don't seem to taste as good as the smaller ones, but I've never had jumbo Honeycrisps.

Hopefully the grocery store gets another shipment in this year. All of the 4'x4' crates of apples were 59 cents a pound the other day.

I've been buying honeycrisps here in Michigan since Labor Day and they are MUTANT huge just like the OP...delicious though....and of course unpasteurized apple cider...seriously makes it hard to drink anything else

I am going up to my grandmas orchard this weekend to pick my apples for the season. She does not grow honeycrisp's which is ok because i like cortland the best. i am super pumped as i love this time of year and i love making applesauce and crisp and pie and all the other awesome things you can make with apples.

They're my favorite eating apple. Second place goes to Granny Smiths.

I wonder how Honeycrisp apples would work in a pie. Hmm... perhaps a GS/Honeycrisp mix?

Many apples have good taste but aren't crisp enough. Many are crisp enough but taste inferior. Some have neither good crispness nor good taste (Red Delicious, I'm lookin' at you!) Honeycrisp gets both taste and crispness spot-on.

I feel ya' about Red Delicious - though sometimes I have had a fairly decent sample, they most often leave me craving a better apple.

Also, for a pie, apparently Alton Brown recommends a mix:
about 6 large apples, a mix between Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Braeburn, and Golden Delicious.
