So I was getting out of a store today and this lady was loading her baby into the car, blocking me in. About three minutes later and after having to listen to cooing, baby talk and other such irritating nonsense, I politely asked if I could get my car out. She turns to me with this look of disbelief on her face and proceeds to say "can't you see I have a baby here?" To which I responded "News flash -having a baby does not make you special. It just validates that tramp stamp on your ass. There have been billions of babies before yours...it doesn't take talent. Now how about closing the door?" Well, things deteriorated somewhat from there and I probably didn't get out any faster. Seriously though, people, aside from the odd teenage girl no one is all that impressed with you having a baby. I just don't see why this affords you the right to act like royalty.

Don't forget about the dog owners. They think they're pretty special too.

Dubious story, but I agree with the sentiment. It's not just baby owners though. There's a general lack of consideration amongst people, and many(most?) don't think of anything beyond themselves.

I pedal a bike all over the place and ever since those rumble strip things started being in the middle of the road I've noticed pretty much nobody gets over to give bikes space anymore.

Just to avoid a rumble they come within inches of hitting me constantly to a point where I'm considering holding a small hammer out everytime a car passes

I don't think it makes you special but some people are just that dumb.

The worst part is when they give you the "What the $#@%, buddy!?" look after they do something inconsiderate. When I'm shopping at Target, it's almost without fail that someone will jettison their huge, lumbering cart from a side aisle as I'm about to walk beside said aisle while in the main aisle. Some of them apologize for almost hitting me, but others just give me that weird look. I consider using a cart to be like driving and those side aisles are like side streets. You get to the end and fucking look first.

Grocery shopping is a case study in inconsiderate behavior. Cart parked dead nuts in the middle of the aisle blocking all passage. Herds of fatties walking side by side blocking passage. Frozen food reconsidered, and left on the dry goods shelf, carts left roaming the parking lots...

My wife is a teacher, and I work from home. So when we had our son, it made sense for him to stay home with me instead of putting him in a daycare to be looked after by some stranger.

So the kid is with me all the time when I'm running errands and such. It's different to look at things from this side of the aisle, especially as a male doing the daily grind with a kid in tow. Sure it takes me a little longer to get in and out of the car because I have to unbuckle my son, but it doesn't take me more than 30 seconds to get him in/out. For the handful of people of "inconvenienced" with this ritual, they've been pleasant and just waited for me to finish to get to their door.

I'm very independent, so I don't expect people to do shit for me -- I'll do it myself. However, on occasion I've had someone open the door for me when I'm walking in with my son (to which I always reply thank you).

Three minutes wasted? Oh my.

Sometimes you just laugh a bit (sorry, being bad) at those people who rush to be first at a stop light.

Just a reflection of society, sadly. We've gotten more educated but have lost most of our consideration and kindness.

Most people seem to be on the edge when shopping or driving. It's like there's a big hurry or something. Maybe taking it easy is something to be truly followed. (I'm no better either).

Getting stuck behind a school bus or farm equipment can be irritating, but is a fact of life. Being inconvenienced because people are only thinking of themselves is a piss off because it doesn't have to be. Both of us could be getting on with life, but because nothing matters but their little world, only one of us can proceed.

Meh, have some kids and you'll figure it out.

Same with fast food. Unless you've worked it, you probably bitch about when you have to wait on something.

People with kids pull a lot of self entitled BS, but taking longer to get in/out of a car is just a fact of life. Cut em some slack on things they can't avoid. Its crap like expecting to go to the front of the line just 'cause they spawned that ticks me off.

Such a thought could be applied to the OP as well. What's the big deal about waiting a couple minutes other than the OP wanting in his car NOW! I also agree that people think babies are a little too special when they're not, but I'd be willing to bet the OP didn't really need to get to his car that quickly.

Getting into a car isn't time for amusing your kid. You drop them into the seat, and clip them up. If you're so clumsy you can't do that in 10 seconds, you have no business operating a 2000# death machine.

Yeah. Tis true. It goes both ways. Parents can be asses, but so can non-parents.

It pisses us off when we have the door open putting the kid in the car seat and some person pulls into the next spot on that same side with just a few inches to spare.

This impatient attitude is exactly the problem. It's quite common for strapping in a kid to take longer than 10 seconds, partially because kids often hate being strapped in.

Sorry to hear you're clumsy. I never had that issue.

Haha I'm gonna say at least fifth time on this forum that kids are getting too much attention, especially from women, yes it sucks so much that these people "reserve" right to block your vehicle, path and more.
Today, I went through the city, just like always, and I seen a woman stopped in the middle of railroad crossing to deal with baby in boogie, WTF?

30 seconds to 1 minute extra is fine. I would wait patiently. 3 minutes and I'm starting to look at my watch, but I would still wait. As long as they are actually dealing with the kid, I'll wait.

That seems reasonable.

A few inches isn't enough? Exactly how far away does everyone have to stay from your baby so you don't get upset?
