First off let me say I have always been a huge Gigabyte fan, and until recently would only buy Gigabyte boards. I have lately opened up to other options, but until somewhat recently they were the only thing I would get for myself. Always been rock solid and last for years.
So I sold my Intel SS4200 nas a few months ago to build a server with more than 4 HD bays. I decided to head up to MC to hop on their AMD cpu+mobo combos for cheap since it will only be used as a 24/7 file server and maybe some other non-intensive server tasks. So I picked up the AMD x4 840+GA-MA78LMT-S2 since it had DDR 3 support and I need a mATX board (Lian Li A04 case which I love btw).
This was last weekend. I have build a ton of systems and have NEVER had as many issues as I have with this board. It took the entire afternoon of fucking with it to even get the onboard video to output video. Finally when I got it to have video I took a break while it was in the bios to eat dinner. When I got back it locked up and needed rebooted. I lost video again. Then through this entire effing week I have been spending ~2 hours fucking with the thing just to get it to display video out so I can work on the server stuff. I know the cable and monitor are both good, as is everything else. The CPU boots fine in my other board I have for my HTPC. It's is definitely something fucked up with this board.
Also, I attempted to use my raid card to add more drive space (only has 4 ports onboard). It then changed the HD boot priority to raid card, and I didn't have any other options. Even AFTER removing the raid card.
I will be returning this board tomorrow after work and am very disappointed with Gigabyte for this board. It could be just a bad board, but QC should have seen that the video out was fucked up.
