Gross, yeah.

But colon cancer can kill you, in fact the survival rate in the US is only 62%. And if you think you're at no risk because your family has no background of cancer in their history- think again. 75% of colon cancer cases are in people just like you, with no family history of cancer. With the diet you probably have, you are at risk.

If you're over 30, suck it up and get it done.
 
According to the American Society of GI docs, a person with no family history should get scoped at 50. If you have a family history, you should get scoped no later than 10 years younger than the age at which your family member was diagnosed.
 
Make sure if you are a big guy like me they give you enough drugs to knock you for a loop. Colonoscopies are fine so long as you don't FEEL them. Ugh.
 
I second the OP's assertion. Colon cancer is nothing to laugh about, even though it's not the easiest thing to talk about.

Get tested.
 
Been there .. done that. Had one at 34. Hugged the nurse afterwards. Hey, it was cheaper than buying her dinner !
 
err... is it possible that this could happen to you during a colonoscopy? makes me afraid to go have one...
