PSA for those who use social networks

I never understood the appeal of social networks. I used facebook to learn the particulars of my HS class reunion and that's it. Any other time I try to look at it my eyes cross at the mind numbing stupidity of most of the conversations going on.

Most people love to talk. Doesn't matter if they're actually saying anything. Social networks are a place where they can vomit all that nonsense out for the world to see.

Keep your friends to a minimum (you know, your actual friends) and you won't have to deal with that kind of shit. Unless, of course, your actual friends are retarded.

the big appeal of facebook for me is keeping in touch with people who I know enough to actually care about their life and how they're doing, but whom I'm not so close with that I talk with them on a regular basis.

extended family, college friends, and the like all come to mind.

I've been an anti face book and anti myspace crusader for a long time now, however, I have actually found a use for facebook.

By brother and I are organizing a canoe trip, and instead of calling people or mailing shit to them or emailing them, or whatever, we can keep track of it all as an event.

Now, the question is, when 25 people say they "will attend" and and only 23 or 24 actually make it .... what do we do to the 1 or 2 jerks that cancelled at the last second?

Burn them, obviously....

. . . 23 or 24 people out of 25 is actually a VERY good turnout. I think you'll be lucky to hit 15 most of the time.

Its facebook. The obvious answer is talk shit about them in your status update.

"Having fun on trip, too bad the jackass who said they would come but didnt isn't here."

Once you do that.... gratz.... you're part of the facebook universe.
