Go to the power industry or something related. They are hiring like mad. I have no idea why universtities have people focus on electronics and only electronics. That's all. Just wanted to help new grads find jobs and not end up unemployed for months on end like me.

Computer Science focusing in networking and he's right, the power industry is looking for computer scientists who can network, program and do electrical engineering. I took the work with a DoD contractor...better pay rate :)

Architectural Engineering, eh? You are the first ArE student I have met outside of my own program. What university?

pay out of college is lower than what you would get when you go into the electronics industry, but after a while, the pay scales up a lot. I am actually glad that trying to find a job in electronics has not worked out for me...even if it meant being unemployed for so long.

What school do you go to that focused almost entirely on electronics?

My school had an entire Power Electronics center (COPEC), with a professional certification and several courses on it. Also there was plenty of analog devices, controls, EM and whatnot that augmented those courses as well. Course I still chose to get an Embedded Systems certification with my masters degree, but thats only because I didnt like Power 2/3 very much, even though Power 1 and Power Lab were a terrific classes.

Course Im going to be putting both my embedded work and power coursework to test at my new job, so I suppose it worked out.

The focus was not entirely on electronics....but most schools' core cirriculum is centered on it.

Yeah power and military/DoD stuff always seemed like good jobs to fall back on. Personally I'd rather get involved with something in Silicon Valley, but it seems like most of these companies have pretty high GPA requirements, so I don't know how much luck I'd have getting one of these jobs. Ideally I'd probably have to pull my GPA up to at least 3.3 or 3.4, currently I'm sitting at about 3.1.
