I have the same problem. I can't seem to get rid of it unless I shave upwards and then I'm left with lots of ingrown hairs the next day and a serious case of razor burn so I just leave it and shave it as best as I can. I've tried shaving from the side, but that's near impossible because of my face shape.

1) Wake up and go in the bathroom.
2) Fish disposible razor from trash that wife used to shave her legs.
3) Take said razor and shave dry face.
4) Take clean, dry towel and pat blood from face.
5) Liberally apply TP all over face and neck

Rinse, repeat.

Or just so as I do and get an electric. :p

Electric doesn't cut it for me. I use Barbasol sensitve skin shaving cream, and switched to the the Ultra razor that I got free over in Hot deals. It shaves with less irritation but I have noticed a darker 5 o'clock shadow than with the disposable razors. But I get nicked less and less blood loss is good. :)

I use the gilette aftershave gel.

I do shave every other day.

I have to shave every day, and shaving with the grain doesn't do anything... I need to go against or all the hair will still be there.

I doubt they are any sharper, the barber just knows what he's doing. A real professional barber (if you can still find a licensed one) has immense amounts of practice at shaving a man's face.

If you guys didn't know before, if you shave with the grain then your hair grows back curled, but if you shave against the grain it grows back straight.

When I learned about this I thought is was BS but decided to try it out. I use to shave with the grain and my hair use too com out curly I then started shaving against the grain and after about 3-4 weeks my hair started to gor back straight, since I started shaving against the grain I felt I was getting a much better, closer, shave then when I was shaving with the grain. The only drawback I had with shaving against the grain is that for the 1st 2-3 months after I started shaving that way I a few more in grown hairs than before, but the hairs evetually went away I 've been shaivng against the grain for the past 7 years.

I've found a real difference in closeness and lack of irritation if I wash my face thoroughly and then use a gritty face scrub. I use the Nivea stuff (face wash and face scrub) because it's relatively cheap (still $6 a tube though!) and you can find it anywhere.

I use this stuff instead of gel or foam. I find that it does an excellent job of keeping irritation down. Plus, when you rinse with cold water, it feels extra cold because of the menthol or whatever is in the oil. I use a regular unscented after shave lotion (Nivea, again because it's cheap and available everywhere).

The Mach 3 turbo has been my razor of choice for over 2 years, but I used the Sensor before because I had better control. There was a learning curve to the Mach 3 and it's STILL not quite as controllable as the Sensor, but the cartridges last longer and the conditioning strip at the top does a better job, IMO. I usually get 3-4 weeks out of a single cartridge and I shave every other day.
