The bad rep at Dodge was earned over a LONG time. I am not saying it is fair, but a reputation is something that is difficult to build, and much easier to tarnish. Either way, a good or bad reputation takes a long time to build and (sometimes) equally long to erase. I am not a Toyota fan, but they did make great cars for decades. They still do, but definitetly hit their share of issues recently. Dodge made crap cars for decades, so it will not be overnight for folks to get excited over owning a dodge. I think that's why they re-branded their trucks as "Ram" TBH.

No, they rebranded their trucks Ram because they are clarifying their brands. Before that, it was muddy with overlapping cars, prices, styles between Dodge and Chrysler. Ram is for trucks, Dodge is for performance and cars, Chrysler is for luxury and Jeep is for what Jeeps do. There is still some overlap but it takes a few years to properly align everything.

But I agree that Chrysler corp made crap for a long time. Just when things were turning the corner, Mercedes came in and made sure that turn would be more like a 180.

When I was growing up, it was "Fix or Repair Daily = FORD" and the symbol of mediocre american cars was the Ford Tempo and the rusty Mustangs with 4cyl engines. I liked my 88 Ford Escort GT but it was one of my first cars and I didn't know that a car with 60,000 miles on it wasn't supposed to clunk and rattle over minor bumps in the road.
