An ellipsis is sometimes used to indicate a pause in speech, an unfinished thought or, at the end of a sentence, a trailing off into silence (aposiopesis).
Ellipses do not, never have, and never will replace periods.

I've been complaining about this to yoyoyohowsdajello MANY times. Just go to the av123.com forum and you'll see the founder, Mark L Schifter, use them way too often. I've complained about this hundreds of times and utterly hate his posts for this reason alone. Let's not even get into how he boasts about anything and somehow creates a bandwagon of followers for every little thing.
Here's the first thread I clicked on: http://av123forum.com/showthread.php?t=20289

Unfortunately what you say is true... I have always hated periods... I just cant stand people that use periods all the time... It makes me want to smack them with a frying pan... "..." works so much better, always leaving a path open to future thoughts... "." always sounds like "THE END" to me, and I dont like that... I like stuff to have continuity... That being said I will use a period in respect to this thread.
Says you.Originally posted by: Evadman
get over it; it really isn't a big deal.

So could you guys just not use them like this... It's really annoying, because periods are what you're supposed to use... Using ellipses in place of periods indicates you never made it past elementary school... This is not cool at all...
EDIT: There are legitimate uses of them, of course, but ending all sentences isn't one of them.

What did the ellipses do for your sentence that a period couldn't have?Originally posted by: LS20
