So if a girl is in a REALLY bad mood, would you say she's on her ellipse?

An ellipsis is sometimes used to indicate a pause in speech, an unfinished thought or, at the end of a sentence, a trailing off into silence (aposiopesis).

I've been complaining about this to yoyoyohowsdajello MANY times. Just go to the av123.com forum and you'll see the founder, Mark L Schifter, use them way too often. I've complained about this hundreds of times and utterly hate his posts for this reason alone. Let's not even get into how he boasts about anything and somehow creates a bandwagon of followers for every little thing.

Here's the first thread I clicked on: http://av123forum.com/showthread.php?t=20289

Unfortunately what you say is true... I have always hated periods... I just cant stand people that use periods all the time... It makes me want to smack them with a frying pan... "..." works so much better, always leaving a path open to future thoughts... "." always sounds like "THE END" to me, and I dont like that... I like stuff to have continuity... That being said I will use a period in respect to this thread.

One reason i use ellipses is b/c it can often make your written words 'feel' more like spoken. Thats mostly b/c i type (aside from shorthand) just like i talk. Ellipses are good for showing a pause, a moment of reflection or to simply be lazy and a "." would make you look like a tool.

Thats just imo though....

Posts are more conversational than typical writing.....so ellipses convey something other than their normal usage. IOW, they convey a speaking style within typed words, a way to make the Reader "hear" how the words are "Spoken", not just a simple expression of Ideas through the typed word. IOW(x2), Posts don't need to obey the laws of written language.

ahh, beaten by jdogg

EDIT: There are legitimate uses of them, of course, but ending all sentences isn't one of them.

I do that all the time. If I am not sure if a comma is appropriate... I just use three dots.

:(
sorry.

What did the ellipses do for your sentence that a period couldn't have?
