Q: When are you making this change?

Beginning Monday, April 7th through Wednesday, May 7th, current DynDNS Free hostnames will remain active. After May 7th, any free accounts that have not upgraded their accounts to VIP by purchasing an upgrade to Remote Access will have their DynDNS free services disabled. Several email notices detailing the changes being made will be sent out during this 30-day period.

...

Q: I was an early donor and was promised free services for life. Are my free services lost?

All of the free services promised to those donors will be honored and they have been contacted. If you feel that you got an email in error, please contact userhelp@dyn.com.

If you use DynDNS via your router and it's your router firmware's only DDNS option, either pay up or you're screwed. Enjoy!

Yep, one of the reasons I got rid of my netgear N300. It only uses dyndns.org.

I used to have a free account and one day, it just stopped working out of the blue about a year ago. I looked and couldn't find any free options on their site. However, D-Link had an agreement with them to provide free DynDNS so I signed up for that and assume that will continue to be honored. If not, I'll pay or find someone else because I do need the service.

I use Unotelly but you've got to pay for it. Does come with a VPN included though.

I have a free account and two hostnames, and I didn't get the most recent email, so how do I know if I will lose it if I don't upgrade? I can't find anything on the website telling me it will expire.

I use their $25/year service and it works very well. Worth the relatively small expense to me.

Well look at it this way, you can either pay their small yearly fee, or pay your ISP a monthly fee for a static IP. If the cost is comparable, go with a static IP.

There are other free providers out there. So, I can not pay... or I can pay.
I choose to not pay. Seems pretty straight forward.

I was using afraid.org, but it doesn't work with my new router for... some reason. So I'm stuck with asuscomm.com.

Bastards.

Time Warner wanted $229 for a static IP, only way to get it was to go with their Business Class. That's insane.

I also use noip. It's free if you either log in once a month or if you use their tray app. I have no issues with it.

You know you guys can just install the windows or linux client for ddns right? There are some that will support any service.

I continue to use noip because they use RFC standards (RFC2136) for updating (which is supported by my ASA).

Got the same emaill today and was looking to see if there was a better coupon than the 25% they give you in the email.

Found a 50% off coupon (credit to Fatwallet). Code is TFU3DYNDNS.

Confirmed, I renewed for 5 years for a total of $45! :)
