I don't know. I'd think it'd be a judgment call you wouldn't want to make. I'd err to caution and probably not use a firearm in the case.
/me shoots at bradruth with a Roman Candle 😛
*Bang*
Of course I'd try something lower on the scale, but if I couldn't get close enough with the OC or ASP, someone's gettin' shot.
Kinda off subject... but I was under the impression you were a reserve officer.. IE no gun, not actually dispatched to calls, etc. That's how it is around me though, in IL, correct me if I am mistaken.
You're mistaken. I *am* a Reserve Officer, but up here we have full police powers. The only differences are we don't work full time, don't work alone, and don't get paid. The power of Reserves varies from state to state.
While this career isn't about the money ( <- military, LE future), I don't see the logic behind having non-paid, full officers. That just has lawsuit and abuse written all over it... not to mention the getting-shot factor.
I can understand the necessity for such a thing in North Dakota (picturing a smaller, more isolated town or something), don't get me wrong, it's probably just a culture thing... you wouldn't even think about something like that over here.
