PSA: Don't mess with phone roms at work (without all files on your system first)

So I decided to migrate my Bionic to ICS today since I have to be at work for 6 hours and it's pretty slow. Get all the files and start the process. Backup my phone, and then start the flashing. Once completed with RSD it just is stuck on the Motorola Dual Core logo. I've found fixes, have a 32 gb flash drive, and work PC with internet. I found ways to fix it. Unfortunately because of USB port security, I cannot xfer the files I downloaded to my work system to the flash drive. I can't use my phone to get into the reboot recovery (CWM) because it was flashed to stock (although I can get into stock recovery).

So now I'm here for 2 more hours with no phone, restricted internet, and no way to fix my phone until I get home. Meh. :colbert:

Sorry dude, I don't do moto phones. They are too much of a PITA to work with.

XDA?

This. Moto phones are not community friendly. Shame too. :(

Made this mistake myself once on the Tbolt, was blocked from getting into CWR because I accidentally left the radio zip on the sd card root. Booted into hboot every time. :(

Was able to fix it when the overlap tech arrived, by putting my phone's sd card into his phone and deleting the file. Then I was able to restore my phone from nandroid easy as pie. :)

Ugh, well I'm trying a flash back to stock (again) with the FXV file and RSD. If this doesn't work, I guess it's see if VZW store techs can fix it.

I stupidly installed a kernel while at work once, and it erased my internal storage. Bye bye pics, music and worst of all, my Nandroid backups.

I usually do a regular nandroid to PC dump every now and again for this reason.

And it clears a crap ton of space as well.

Yeah, my nandroids were both on the internal and on my PC... at home. I flashed the kernel about 5 minutes before I had to be on the clock.

I don't think I have plugged my phone into my PC for quite some time. One thing I do love about samsung is Mobile Odin. Never have to plug into a PC for the most part. If something can't be flashed via CWM, odin can do it.

Also... love the fact that titanium backup can restore apps from nandroid backups :)

Between Odin, CWM, SMS Backup+ I can changed ROMs in maybe 10 minutes with everything installed.

Ive never found mobile odin that useful. What have you needed it for? I usually find CWM can handle everything I need.

Going between GB & ICS. The E4GT can be bricked /w CWM in ICS. W/O source, the partition data is off and if you flash or wipe data in CWM /w ICS it bricks. Also, upgrading modems etc...

And by brick I don't mean soft brick, I mean even odin can't fix it :)

I've also used it for a quick flash back to stock if I have phone trouble so the store doesn't bitch about it being rooted.

I think I'd be happier doing that connected to a PC.

Youre a braver man than I, or more impatient.:D

Yeah I did think about the flashing back to stock but I've never needed to do that (phone is not supplied by my carrier).
