PSA: don't follow too closely, and change lanes slowly (check your blind spots)

i witnessed 1 accident and 1 near miss on my commute this morning.

the accident could've been easily avoided if he left more space in front of him.

the near miss was a near miss because he did a safe slow lane change, although he didn't check his blind spot.
i see too many people who think they're hot shit doing quick lane changes with a quick jerk of the wheel.

People who take so damn long to change lanes, especially for on ramps and off ramps, piss me off. Get the fuck over into your lane and get on with driving your car.

if i try to leave a safe distance during heavy traffic some uses the opportunity to cut me off

I change lanes, etc., extremely slow if someone is riding my tail. I'm all tough and crap when I drive... and delusional.

So shouldn't that be 2 accidents? The second one nearly missed, but apparently didn't. ;)

If you don't check your blind spots before changing lanes, you WILL get in an accident or cause one at some point.

-edit-
And USE YOUR TURN SIGNAL dummy!!!!

avoid blind spots by properly adjusting your mirrors and you won't have to check it.

I don't tailgate.

You apparently drive overcautiously, which is unsafe.

If you are getting tailgated and you are not on the right lane and you can move over you are a douche.

If you are getting tailgated and you can't move over or you are in the right lane then the tailgater is the douche.

Amen, I don't know why people think they need to see directly behind them with all three mirrors.

At least you change lanes?

The worst is people staying in the left lane the whole time doing 10 under the limit!

People tend to be really aggressive drivers in downtown areas for a reason though, at rush hour, if you don't cut out quickly, you will NOT be able to change lanes. Also, taxis pull over suddenly and everyone swerves to avoid them.

I check anyway.

It's hard to adjust your mirrors so there is no blind spot whatsoever in some cars.

Meh.

It depends on my mood. If I'm in the left lane, cruising at 10MPH over and there's nobody on the highway, you can kiss my ass, I'm not changing lanes for you. If you want around me, by all means.

If I'm going the speed limit, I'll move over.

why should it matter if you're going 10mph over or just doing the speed limit?
if you're in the left lane and going slower than the guy behind you, you should be in the slow lane - on the right

If theres no one around, I would definitely change lanes and let the guy pass. Someone to get busted by speed traps instead of you. :)

How about boxing someone in when they are riding your ass?

Funny this would come up today. On Monday I saw a guy weaving among lanes in slow, near bumper-to-bumper traffic on a 3-lane interstate. He'd flick his signal on for one second then swerve into an adjacent lane while accelerating to move up one whole car length. At a point when he was about 100 yards ahead of me, he made a move into the leftmost lane from the middle lane, except the guy in front of him made the same move at the same time. The serial weaver had to eat the Jersey barrier to avoid the guy in front who also moved over.
