I've seen this before on Discovery or PBS. The main function of the male Lion is to kill the hyenas. Other than that, he just sleeps all day and get feed by the ladies.

Too bad the lions won. I don't know why you guys are rooting for the bullies, more often than not it's the lions that steals from the hyenas.

The male lion probably got fed up with all the laughing that the heyenas are always doing, especially late at night when he was trying to sleep.

ever watch a lion try and fight a buffalo? Buffalo's make lions look like the pussies. I was watching this video on discovery channel about Buffalos and lions and they were saying how its a big myth that Lions are the king of the wild. They were saying it was Buffalo, and i think its true. It usually takes 15 lions to take down a buffalo. They even showed a Buffalo leave the herd just to go taunt over 40 lions. The pack of lions just stood there, and when the buffalo would act he was going to charge, they would all scatter and run away. It was pretty funny.

I'd like to see some footage of this

Well, the reason being is that Water Buffalo weighs between 1800 and 2600 lb.

Bad news: lions have tiny, tiny wangs.

I guess you'd at least have something to remind you of your human life, eh? :p

Dude, if nine inches is "tiny" to you, you should be in porn.

(My fiancee is a vet student.)

But when a male lion mates with a female, though the couplings are short, he can average banging her over twice an hour over a 24+ hour period. When you get that much play, who cares about a small wang?

Cape Buffalo are the dangerous ones... water buffalo aren't nearly so bad.

Cape buffalo are indeed the badasses of the savannah. Besides their huge mass and strength, they generally have pretty foul tempers (although not on par with a hippo) but the cool things about them is their rib cages. The ribs themselves are super dense and don't have much space between them. Think an internal suit of armor protecting the organs. I've seen footage of hunters blasting them with crazy firepower (.460 Nitros and .375HH) repeatedly and the buffalo just saunter away, confused where all the noise is coming from.

I've always had a strong distaste for hyenas. Seeing that lion lay down the smack was awesome. A pissed off mature male lion is one of the last things I'd ever want to fvck with.

Interesting fact: lions get the majority of their sustenance from scavenging, often stealing the kills from hyenas (go figure). I read somewhere that the most efficient hunter on the plains is actually the African wild dog. Male lions can only really hunt at night, and generally by ambush. Their dark manes give them away. But even that's rare, the womenfolk do the shopping, the guys lay down the law when it's necessary.

This is why I like motars. Preferably, firing WP... better pack some sauce, too, b/c you'll have an instant BBQ.
