I agree, I like to scare the sh1t out of people when they do that by going right for them and missing them by less than a foot.

Apparently neither one of you know traffic laws very well. It is allowed to to enter the intersection even if you cannot exit it before the light turns red. You just have to have entered it before the light turns red.

Also, just because you have a green light does not mean you have the right of way. Green lights must yield to vehicles that are already in the intersection.

That's nothing. Chicago traffic is used to long yellow lights and a second or two with both directions red before one turns green.

While in college I lived in an apartment one year with a window looking at a somewhat busy intersection the year the Chicago Bears played in Champaign Illinois. In Champaign the yellow is short and once one direction gets a red, the other is immediately turned to green. Not a pretty sight having Chicago traffic down there. There were times I needed to cross the intersection on foot, when the red light hits, there was not one, but *two* cars who hadn't even entered the intersection yet blowing the red light...

I don't even want to get into the times when two cars approaching an intersection, the car in front stops for the yellow, and the car in back still wants to run it... sad fact is, stopping on yellow can still be very dangerous.

NM, you have to yield to traffic in the intersection, but don't be in the intersection on the red light. :p

It is the law here in Texas also so the OP can just deal with it.

Varies by state. In PA it is illegal to enter an intersection if you can't make it out before it turns red.

Because all three colors of lights have three different meanings?

This is the place where you admit that you were wrong and quit frightening people that were obeying traffic laws. It's okay to be wrong sometimes, it happens to us all :p

Yep, traffic laws differ all over. I just about caused a major accident, when I was younger, the first time I drove someplace where merging traffic has the right of way.

Here's where I say I'm sorry for doubting you. :p anyways, I'm still going to scare the sh1t out of people. I'll yield to them as far as I'm not going to hit them. Most of the time these people enter the intersection on yellow knowing that they are going to be blocking traffic, those are the idiots I hate.

I don't care what the law is, it's still dick to intentionally enter the intersection knowing you're going to hold up an entire lane of cars for half a light.

So you're talking about gridlock, not free-flowing roads where the other car is just going to keep going straight.

What's this free-flowing roads you are talking about? I haven't seen those in years.

I can't argue that. I have a light close to my work where people do that. There is a light 2 blocks down that traffic always backs up at, and people will block the intersection even though there is a sign the specifically prohibits blocking the street. I usually just honk to get thier attention and then point at the sign.

Some intersections in FL have signs saying "DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION ON RED." There's one intersection out of USF on Bruce B Downs Blvd in Tampa that's got that sign.

i don't care what the traffic laws are. i care about an orderly flow of traffic and it would be much better if fscktards didn't sit in the middle of the fscking intersection when it is obvious that they will not be able to clear it until 30 seconds after their light turns red.

if i were a cop i would stand right next to that sign and ticket every last person who blocks that intersection.

NM, you have to yield to traffic in the intersection, but don't be in the intersection on the red light. :p

Uhm, you suck at the reading comprehension. :)

"Do not enter the intersection if you cannot get completely across before the light turns red. If you block the intersection, you can be cited."

From your own link.

Notice the part where I put NM, as in nevermind.

NYC has these signs all over the place. Apparently the tickets are nasty too (some signs indicate you will get 2 points on your license -- as bad as two moving violations for insurance rates -- for gridlocking that intersection!)

As for IL, I take it people are referring to this rule (see links above):

If you enter an intersection while the light is green, you may finish your turn even though the light turns red.

(emphasis added)

Please note the bolded text. If for some reason you get stopped in the intersection (pedestrian jumps out in front of you, car in front of you brakes suddently, etc.), you can finish your turn after the light turns red. Oncoming traffic should wait for you to clear the intersection before entering it in this case. If the light is yellow you are supposed to stop before the intersection. In many places (not sure about IL) you are not supposed to enter an intersection even if the light is green if it is obvious you will not be able to exit it, and it's never a very good idea.

Edit: post above pointed out another rule saying the same (don't enter an intersection unless you can clear it before the light turns red).

F*ck I suck at reading comprehension. I'll take that self-ownage hat now.

I only skimmed the last line and saw NM and figured New Mexico since we were talking state driving laws. :(
