I work in the 1 hour photo at CVS, and today really, really sucked. I got in at 4, and there's approxamately 8 jobs due at 5PM. Sweet. I nearly kill myself doing those, to find 2 more for 5:30. Day continues like this. My dinner break is postponed for an hour, then two. Just before, the cashier asks me if I have any photo for <name>. I tell her that I have it, but it hasn't been processed because there was no time marked on it.

A little word on procedure at CVS: When there is a queue of photo to be done, any photo that does not have a time marked on it goes to the back, to be processed at the next opportunity when the machine is available. Does this sound odd to you? Seems legitimate to me.

Apparently the girl who came in to pick up her photos doesn't think so. She dropper off her photos 1.5 hours before, I remember seeing them left on the counter with no time. She must write hella fast, 'cause I only have my back turned to the counter for 30 seconds at a time processing film to go into the machine. So there's the film left there with no time on it. You'd think if she really needed the film in an hour she'd have told somebody about it.

So they(her and a BF) are at the register, acting like it's the end of the world because the don't have their pictures. They are so pissed, I'm wondering if they're catching a plane in the next 35 seconds or so. So she proceeds to tear me a new one while I try to explain the policy to her. I offer to put her photos at the top priority, but she asks for the film back and tells me she's going to Wal*Mart. Not in a rush so much, I guess. She pockets the film and proceeds to trip out. It's at this point that I wonder if she is on some kind of medication, or maybe it's that time of the month, perhaps both. She is starting to get rather loud antd attract the attention of other customers, all the while I'm remaining calm and trying to explain to her that when there are 18 other rolls of film that a 5 minutes from late, a roll of film with no name marked on it does not take priority. (I came within 7 seconds of a deadline today, BTW) She says that policy sucks and all film should be processed ASAP in the order it is recieved, regardless of time marked. Sounds socialist. Luckily, her elevated voice has attracted the attention of a manager at this point, who takes over. Same banter, different recipient. She leaves eventually, and the next couple of people in line have already marked the time they'll be returning for their film.

Her shenanigans cause me to miss a deadline, woman is pissed.

On another note:
Never, ever take your film to a 1 Hour Photo to be processed unless is cannot wait. The chances of us torching your film are notably siginifigant. I had to make a few calls this week. If you can, [Edit: Go digital.] take your film to a professional developer and give them a week to do it(or as much as they ask plus some). Failing that, go to a well established 1 Hour Photo and do SEND OUT. Nothing in-house.

To conclude, I am surrounded by idiots and unmaintained machines.

I've had TWO rolls of film lost by photo finishers when they've been 'sent out.' I don't send film out anymore, and only get 1-hour. However, I make it clear to them that it doesn't have to be done in 1 hour.

That works too. I haven't had any lost sendout film, but hey.

Best option: Go digital.

I go to a professional developer myself, typically not in much of a hurry. That and I prefer that when I pay in excess of $10 per roll that I have high quality prints/slides.

Everytime I go to eckerd to get a one hour photo development, they always tell me it's gonna be at least 3 hours.
They should change the name into 3-hr photo...

Wanna get a job at my company and be a supervisor in my dept? We need more people with attitudes like yours there (regarding treatment of rude callers), and I've screwed myself into being locked into my job.

See my above post- nothing. Well, nothing female.

However- this same day a hot, very friendly blonde(no pics) dropped off some digital work and encouraged me to look at her photos(a lot). I got the feeling she was testing the water*, so I did. They were pics of one of the Sox games, with a lot of pictures of her and her (good looking) female friends around Boston. One pic of two girls biting the same donut... intimately. Seem like pretty average pics... don't know why she wanted me to look at them. She smiled at me a lot and I thought she was going to get my number since I wasn't going to get hers(too much age difference).

Well, that's as close as I've come to pr0n.

*Note: This is just another example of how very screwed up CVS is. There are people who shop there that miht be remotely interested in me. Scary. 2 of the cashiers have the hots** me me, but they're ugly.

**Note: Did, as in the past tense. I pwnt them. They were annoying.

I worked at an eckard photo lab, and a CVS one. Eckard has 10x better machines, they can expect each picture and adjust it. I liked working in the Eckard photo lab alot better too, the CVS machine pretty much autos them out no checking them for balance of color or brightness.

Cliff Notes that aren't needed:

Take General pics to Eckard
Take pr0n pics to CVS.

Been there, done that. I worked in a 1 hour photo for about 2 years. It was a good job most of the time. There were plenty of times when people would fill out the envelope and leave it on the counter when we weren't looking. If they neglected to put a time on it, we just marked one hour from the time we noticed it sitting there and gave it the normal place in line.

How many rolls does your lab do in an average day?
