What a screwed up system.

No, it's awesome. It makes us aware of time once a year at least and it makes the transition to spring a bit of an occasion.

Or at least that's how I see it - I know it's a bit costly and causes all sorts of unnecessary problems. I like it, though. :)

So, you are telling that there are people that do not track time? Insanity!

When we're on artificial time about 8 months of the year, something's wrong.

I think it's stupid and useless at least in Europe since people are more active at night nowadays and have to get up in the morning with the dark anyway.
No savings at all.

This is good. It means my feline alarm clock, which does NOT believe in Standard time, will finally be back on my schedule!

It sucks.

Indiana did not observe DST until 2005 (IIRC). The governor said it would save us money on energy costs, etc. Subsequent studies have shown it has actually cost us more money. There have been rumblings that we may drop DST and I hope that happens.

Daylight saving time made sense, oh, 230 years ago, when Benjamin Franklin bemoaned the fact that people were sleeping in during the morning daylight and burning candles at night.

But is there really much point to it anymore?

It used to be said, when you adjust your clock, check your smoke detector batteries, however, most electronics, cars, etc. adjust for it automatically and less and less of us have to do any manual adjusting.

Because we're all so tired, There are higher chances for workplace injury and loafing around on the job as we wait for the coffee to kick in. It also causes more deadly accidents on the road due to sleep deprivation.

Waking up earlier is just plain irritating. It should be daylight savings time year round! It should never be dark at 5pm!. We should also get rid of timezones altogether, it should be the same time everywhere, and local government can define the standard workday as they see fit.

My .02 cents.

Saving or Savings?

That's easy. You are 'saving' daylight as they say - that's a verb.
Savings is a noun, something that folks put away somewhere for a later date - i.e. a savings account.

Get it?

And be gone! Not just DST but get rid of time zones altogether! The scientific community has been using GMT (sometimes called Zulu) for decades. Everyone, the time is the same what determines what time you eat, work, sleep, etc. is where you are. It's not that hard. As someone that spends time moving and changing through various time zones it's a PIA TBH. Abolish silly time zones forever!

With DVRs there's no need to have all these regional broadcasts either.

AZ doesn't observe it. Its GREAT. Getting others to realize that we don't observe it proves to be a challenge though.

DST eats shit. It throws my system off for months at a time. Want more light? Wake the fuck up earlier, and change your business hours. It's not as though special hours aren't used other times during the year. If I were fuhrer, DST would be abolished, and even speaking of it would be a capital offense.

I thought it was stupid and useless at first.

Then my kid started school, 6 year old girl. So when we set the clocks back it was really nice seeing her walk to the bus stop in the light instead of the dark.

Bah, just when it was starting to get a bit brighter out in the morning... it's what makes getting up slightly easier. Who cares about light after work, an hour is not what makes the difference, it's still pitch black when I get out of the office anyway, until we're right into summer.

I bet if they were to pass a massive vote, most people would vote in favor to just abolish this system. Pick one mode, and just stick with it.

I love all the people who will complain for weeks after the change.
