PSA concerning coolers and chocolate milk and time

If you carry a cooler around in your truck and leave a container of chocolate milk in there the container might rupture. Then, it is just possible that the cooler could remain hermetically sealed from say mid-September through, I don't know, maybe Feb 7th. Then when you open the cooler because you just finished a hike and remembered that you had bottled water in the cooler and thought you'd refresh yourself you might learn that the stench from anaerobically decomposed chocolate milk can put a buzzard off its lunch at 100 yards. That's all.

Well, did you drink the water?

Yes, a couple bottles were not in contact with the disgusting liquid slothing around the bottom of the cooler. It's been two days and no gastrointestinal distress so I think I'm okay.

I used to work nights at <large milk company> cleaning and loading trailers. Imagine a 40' trailer with mold and stench on the ceiling and walls from ruptured gallons on the haul back. It would be weeks sometimes before trailers were cycled around to be cleaned out. Sometimes, pressurized gallons would explode in your face.

Drink the milk as well. You'll be fine.
