I think it's a game in China to see who can dump the most hazards crap into products sent to the US.
I heard they started making chicken nuggets in China and shipping them here. I wouldn't feed one of things to a dog I didn't like. Probably made out of rat and old people.

Men don't wear makeup.

Maybe you should post this under a more female oriented forum.

I don't put anything from China in or on my body. I'd like it if I could avoid China altogether, but that's virtually impossible. Regarding this particular case, I wonder how much asbestos is in the makeup, and how easy it is to get in the lungs. I noticed the mother in question was a lawyer. I'm sure her testing of the makeup was completely unrelated though...

"I physically sank,” said Warner. “I ended up sitting on the ground, just trying to wrap my head around how something like that could end up in our home.”

Warner had been concerned about the ingredients in her 6-year-old daughter Mackenzie's glitter makeup kit, purchased"

UH, who the f lets their 6 year old wear make-up?

Asbestos is pretty harmless until it gets to the point of floating around in the air.*

*Being from China it may arrive in a friable state already.

I'm sure there's some lead in it too. The fact that companies do absolutely no QC checks on their products is really unbelievable to me. If companies received real fines of say $1,000 per unit sold over toxic limits, shit like this would end real quick. But right not, it really doesn't cost a company anything if they poison you with lead, or asbestos because by the time you have complications, the statue of limitations will be over and it'll be impossible for you to trace it back to them.

Or rather, check the news to see if your makeup has been exposed as an asbestos carrier.

http://komonews.com/news/nation-wor...-childrens-makeup-after-family-finds-asbestos

I suspect this is probably exclusive to dirt cheap products from China or Vietnam, but regardless its kinda sad.
That shit should never have been allowed into the country at all. Which means someone at Customs could be slacking off.
Children's makeup? Sheesh!

Makeup is often not harmless. What ever happened to common sense?

On average, women use twice as many personal care products as men, applying far more chemicals to their bodies. What’s the impact on their health?

Between cosmetics, perfumes, personal care products and feminine hygiene products, women in the US apply an average of 168 chemicals to their faces and bodies every day, according to new research by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group.

Some of these chemicals are completely harmless, but others are endocrine disruptors, carcinogens and neurotoxins, most of which have not been independently reviewed for safety before hitting store shelves. And there is growing concern that the combined chemical burden from these products may be directly related to increased rates of reproductive issues and cancer among women.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists wrote in a 2013 reportthat there is “robust” evidence linking “toxic environmental agents” to “adverse reproductive and developmental health outcomes”.

Joining other leading scientific organizations, the College called for “timely action to identify and reduce exposure to toxic environmental agents while addressing the consequences of such exposure”.

But “timely action” may be a problem. Nancy Buermeyer, senior policy strategist for the nonprofit Breast Cancer Fund, says that there is insufficient research on the effects of consumer chemicals. “We don’t know enough about chemicals on any front and certainly not about how they impact women because we haven’t spent the time or energy to look at it,” she says.

Unreasonable risk...

Wow, and one guy/girl on the big yearly list of sticking things in their orifices stuck a stick of mascara up their ass. Not sure if that is better or worse for your body than inhaling it but it can't be good either way.

Unfortunately we can't avoid buying Chinese made stuff, the corporations have sold out US manufacturing and moved much of it to China...especially electronics, but when possible I buy (a) Made in the USA, (b) Made in Canada, (c) Made in Europe (or GB), (d) Made in any other "Free country," then Chinese made if I have on viable alternative...or an alternative that's reasonably priced...sadly, on my fixed income, that comes into play much more than it used to.

A good ethical choice is buying used. You don't generate more crap for the planet, and your money doesn't go to China. I need to do that more than I already do. Only buy stuff if it's really needed. You might have seen a post about my retro keyboard. I didn't need to buy that. It isn't better than the model M I already have. I bought it cause I like the way it looks. That's how apple users think. I need to quit that :^/

Bah, WE sold out just as much as the corporations. We bought the Chinese stuff because it was cheaper which forced other corporations to start having their stuff made in China just to be competitive and stand a chance of us buying it. You could set up shelves of identical items one of them with a huge banner saying this half is made in America and the other half made in China but the made in America stuff is at least 40% more expensive. Guess which side will sell vastly more than the other? You can still buy, or at least could as of a few years ago, a pair of Levi jeans made in America but they cost $140+ versus a pair of Levi's made in China for $30. Guess why they don't make a ton of the US made jeans and sell them widespread in all the retail stores they sell their Chinese made jeans?
