I'm noticing Amazon is often 5-10% cheaper than RockAuto, and for those of us with Prime there's free 2 day shipping on a lot of it. The easiest way I've found is to look up parts on RockAuto and then search Amazon for the part number you're looking for. Amazon's parts finder isn't nearly as good as RockAuto's.

FYI. ;)

Interesting. The one time I looked, they weren't price competitive, but that was right after they started selling parts.

edit: and I only checked one item at the time.

It seems to vary a lot - JCH13 had better pricing from RockAuto for Mazda parts, but my last few Toyota parts orders have been from Amazon.

Yar, it seems to be a crap-shoot as to which is cheaper... but if you want 2-day shipping Amazon is the way to go. 2-Day from rock auto usually breaks the bank for me.

Crap shoot most definitely. I have hit both, and generally end up going for whichever is cheaper.

Generally speaking though, RockAuto's shipping is pretty damned quick.

I have had a few things arrive fast, mostly it's a long wait... I guess it depends on what warehouse the part is in.

Amazon is built on their pricing and efficiency, there's no way that RockAuto can compare at all on shipping speed. Expecially once you factor in all-you-can-eat 2-day shipping for $70/yr.

While we're talking saving on auto parts, don't forget to check Advance Auto Parts website. Most of the stuff is available for in-store pickup and you get free shipping over a certain dollar amount that is pretty easily met if you're shopping smart.

This is where I find the latest coupon codes. Unfortunately discounts do not apply to oil, but they do everything else.

Oh, I'm not saying they can compete. I am just saying that they are generally fairly quick. Amazon is 2 days where as RockAuto is often 3 or 4. Generally fast enough for me.

I just bought a catalytic converter for <$200 at Advance after free shipping and coupon code. Same cat was ~$300 at Rock Auto; and if it doesn't fit, I can return it to the b&m location. Current coupon code is often advertised all over Advance's website.

I guess I'm spoiled. If I need any part quick, I happen to live within 3 miles of a major distribution center/warehouse of a major parts store with a store-front attached.

Just got 6 NGK plugs that would have been $82 at Amazon for $55 in the store.

Last year I used amazon to get a replacement fuel filler tube assembly for my mustang, they were at least $70 cheaper than any other price I could find.

Also got a replacement car remote for about $6 from Amazon too.

Definitely good advice OP.

With amazon car parts, cross reference with the makers of the said part, then verify if you can with the reviews/comments. Otherwise I prefer to use amazon when I can otherwise I hit up rockauto.

I agree.
Usually I shop around, Rock Auto, the Big 3 parts stores, even e-bay!
I am in the process of fixing up a Cherry '01 Catera for resale, the A/C was shot, got a new compressor for <$100 on e-bay, new Receiver & Exp. valve for $26.00 on e-bay, but once I changed those & started filling the system, a High Pressure line started leaking.

Very hard to find part, >$300 @ Rock Auto (only one I could find online), even over $100 at the junkyards.
Finally found a used one on e-bay for $50 shipped. Never occurred to me to check Amazon.
Anyway, got the line & got it on, A/C works flawlessly now, just that the used line looks out of place amongst all the clean, shiny engine parts.
So the other day, I punched in the Part number at Amazon, NEW line, in stock, $100.05!
Would really preferred a new line than chancing a used, but whatever.
Darned betcha I'm going to check Amazon from now on!

Yep if I have the time, I'll shop around amazon wins most cases. EBay does have its perks but less of warranty and random shipping times.

EBay won in the case of a Camry intake tube for $25 and rock auto wanted $50. Amazon had nothing

AAP wins if I need it now, love that coupon code!
