PSA: Canada has cheep booze

Large bottle of Grey Goose for ~$37 Canadian, large bottle of Bombay Sapphire for $18 Canadian, you get the point.

Supposedly your supposed to pay taxes when you try to get back into the US but the guy just sent us on our way after we told him we had bought "chocolate and liquor". I think the tax is usually about 3 bucks per bottle.

Since when? We used to buy Canadian Club here in Virginia and take it up for friends in Montreal because it was so much cheaper here.

not sure man, I just know that my local liquor store charges 20 bucks + tax for a small bottle of Bombay Sapphire and I got a much larger bottle from the duty free shop for $18 can

the exchange rate is about $1.25 can = $1 US
it used to be about 1.65 can to the US dollar 3 or so years ago..

It's just at the duty-free...I know I can get a 40 of CC at duty-free for like 20 bucks, where it's closer to 50 here, an hour and a bit away from the Buffalo border.

Hmm, I'm going to have to hit up duty-free shops in Niagara some time soon. When is that Benson & Hedges thing anyway...do they still do that in Toronto?

Ahh I think the keyword here is Duty Free. Your not paying all the Canadian taxes that a Canadian would pay buying it in the Provincial package stores (assuming they still have those, I haven't been to Montreal in 10 years).

I suspect the US gvt allows citizens a certain amount to bring back tax/duty free.

when i went to Omaha last summer for a wedding, i got to buy 2 cases of cans for $50 CDN. that was like the best thing that happened to me last summer. as long as I stay in the US for 48hrs+, I get great deals at the Duty Free shop. that kicks so much ass.

It used to be $200.00-$400.00 per 3 months exempted from duty, I am not sure what the current amount is.
