PSA: blinkers people!

Why do some people NEVER use their blinkers? Is it too much effort to left the lever?

I agree that there are times when you don't really need to use your blinker...like on a deserted road or when you are in a lane that HAS to turn.

But if you are going to come to a complete stop so that you can make a left hand turn across two lanes of rush hour traffic, then maybe you could take the time out of your fvcked up and miserable life to use your FREAKING BLINKER!

I'd just like to point out that cars don't have blinkers, they have turn signals.

My dad is a cabbie in acity with some of the worst drivers in the nation.(Memphis) and he has the theory that many people feel the turn signal lever is ome sort of james bondesque self-destruct switch for the car.

This has been up a few time lately. I hate it. If your lane is ending and you don't have your signal on, or at least a hand out the window, no fvcking way in hell you're getting over.

LOL, that's great.

That post reminds me of driving at the airpoirt in Orlando, though. The worst and most dangerous drivers there (and I do mean dangerous) are the folks that drive there everyday and all day long. The bus and shuittle drivers, the security and tow truck drivers, but especially the taxi drivers.

and if you forget to use your blinker for a lane change and get a ticket for it (as i did) GO TO COURT AND GET SUPERVISION!!! what ever you do, keep the ticket off your record. stupid me paid the crummy $18 fine and forgot the whole deal, but when i went looking for car insurance this year i couldn't switch to a much cheaper carrier because of that ticket. never mind it's my only violation in 10 years and i'm driving a subaru wagon. not going to court on that stupid $18 ticket is going to cost my $1000 in extra insurance fees over the next three years. grr!!!

I really never use the blinkers on the freeway... I figure I'll be way a head of them once I move into their lanes. But, I do use blinkers when appropriate, i.e your point, and when I need to exit. I have come to realize that the blinkers on your car when activated have the same suggestive motions of "come hither" with your hands. Everytime I put my blinkers on, the car in the corresponding lane speeds up, therefore, I don't use blinkers that often.

Yes but if you're on a 3 lane highway, and you are in teh far right lane, switching to the middle. Perhaps the guy behind you in the middle lane doesn't need your blinker, but the guy in far left lane also switching to the middle better see you blink!

I hate it when you are on 2 lane streets and you pull behind someone that looks like he's going to go straight but turns on the blinkers when once the light turns green. That annoys me to no end.

Turn your blinkers on before you reach the light you idiots! People like me don't appreciate being stuck behind you because of your laziness!

I didn't catch where you are but they are not equipment to be used here in Louisiana. They are only on the vehicle to be used once a year during an Inspection Test. So apparently the folks here don't use them
ever for fear that they will wear them out and then fail the inspection.

I am dead serious, I heard the people saying that for myself while waiting an hour a half for the Inspection here last week.

Yesterday, I was driving in the left lane of a congested road. As I was stopping at a light, the guy in the right lane wanted to go left, so I do him a favor and stopped to let him in in front of me. The light turns green and he puts on his left blinker. Way to pay back a favor! :|

i can handle all non-blinking except for the idiot who is about to come to a complete stop in front of me during rush hour traffic.... and the asshole who wants his vehicle to occupy the same spatial and temporal coordinates as mine.... and the jackass that feels like he will be able to some how telepathically communicate with the drivers behind him that he will be parked for a while at the next red light because he needs to turn left on an unprotected light.

All other non-blinking use cases are only minorly irritating at worst.

Yeah, I dont' need to see your turn signal if you are about to merge (its assumed b/c your lane is about to dump into mine, and any further delay will send you up and over a gaurd rail that was engineered to lift and roll your car up through the air and down onto me and my car) although I always signal a pre-eminant merge out of habit.

Turn signal use seems to be at an all-time low and falling. From my observations, less than half the drivers on the road use them anymore. It really pisses me off because I use mine so unconsciously that I use them when I pull into my driveway on a small privately-maintained neighborhood street.
IMO, the decreasing use of turn signals is a symbol of how basic manners, courtesy, and politeness are also decreasing in our country. People seem to want to go out of their way to be rude to other people so long as they can do it passively and get away with it. And there is nothing more passive than being rude by NOT doing something that they should as a simple courtesy.

I don't know how many <^>s I had to throw up because idiots don't turn on the blinkers. I ride my bike to and from work/campus and these ppl seriously piss me off. They'll slow down, then as I slow down to let them pass (since car traffic piles up way fast, i woulnd't want to get the other guy honked), he turns in the other direction. WTF?!? TURN YOUR FSKCN BLINKER!

Whats worse are the people who are driving next to you and honk at you as they try to turn to the right. WOW, I was there first and let me go FORWARD first? At which point I let go of my handlebar and give them the <^> times 2 as I continue to go.

And another point. After you've turned or changed lanes, FEEL FREE TO TURN YOUR BLINKER OFF! No need to wait for 7 miles to go by.

if you've ever driven in cali or even nj/nyc people who dont use turn signals to change lanes cut people off a lot. the point of signals is to let other drivers know where you're going. he doesn't use signals on the freeway and with the traffic here, he inadvertently cuts people off

Yep, like flicking the Cigarettes out of the window when they know they have a convertible behind them people with the window open or just plain flicking the damn things at people to begin with.
