Yeah, you get a lot of idiots. The showcase is the best when there's a cruise vacation and a car, then the person is so excited and such a piece of white trash they think its worth 500k or something.

If you are ever in the L.A. area, i recommend going to see a taping of the show at least once, its fun. Problem is you need to be in like by like 5AM in the morning to wait for numbers, due to popularity. There is only 325 seats available. Mondays are best day to go, because they have 2 tapings. Also i recommend the chickies wear something hot looking, increases your chances of being picked. They interview pretty much everyone, to choose who will be contestant. It is not random pick. You will also notice blondes usually make it on to contestants row more often. Think BOB likes it that way.

If it where you up there who would you rather look at, blonds or dudes? As long as he puts the token male in there he's good to go.

Hahaha... $1 is very smart, but not as a FIRST move. Oh well... live and learn (or die).
Depends on the timing. There are 3 bids in each of two halves. There is a car in each half. If the car was given away on the 1st bid of the first half, then you know there will be junk on the next two prices. Then when the next round comes around, you still have 3 more chances, one of which may be a car.

So it may be in your best interest early on to NOT attempt to win the crappy prizes and to hold out. Also that way, you become the last bidder.

I thought that too for awhile, but then you're taking a gamble. You may end up not even getting on. Also, most of the cars are econo crap. I'd rather take the cash value. But the biggest reason is because by getting on, a) you win whatever you bid on, b) you may win a crap prize or two in your game (and they're not all bad), c) you are guaranteed to be in the spin off, for d) a chance to get into the showcase showdown, where you could win a lot more than a car. I dunno, aiming to win "A NEEEEEWWWWW CAAAARRRRR!!!!!" seems like too much of a gamble to me.

That is why I said it depends on the timing. If it is the 2nd bid overall, then you have 4 more to go. The chances are high that any reasonably intelligent person will win one of those 4 times (especially since you'll likely be bidding last).

But I wouldn't purposely lose on the 5th bid. There is only one bid left and you better get your butt on stage.

Isn't the cash value of an econo car better than the cash value of a set of ugly bedroom furniture?

Also, if you show up as part of a group wearing service uniforms, university sweaters, or corny custom t-shirts, one of you is practically a shoe-in.

The unofficial selection rule is to choose the most peppy people in the audience. It is hard to be peppy at 5 am, but you gotta do it if you want to be on the show.

I've watched that show since I was very young, because I figured out there are always cute co-eds on . A friend of mine has been to a taping and she said Bob is a real jerk during the commercial breaks.
