PSA: Always check out strange noises your car makes promptly

The past couple days my old Jeep has been making a half clanging/half squeaking noise when turning a corner. There were no driveability problems and nothing seemed majorly wrong so I put off crawling under there to check it out, figuring the suspension just needed greased or something. I finally looked under there and it turns out the bolts holding the driver's side motor mount to the block had all broken, so there was nothing supporting the motor on that side. The noise I was hearing was the motor mount banging against the exhaust pipe. Guess I should fix that...

100% with Heisenberg here..

I heard an odd noise from my engine..progressively got louder. I looked into it, and found a loose plug..tightened it back down and it's been fine. Could've been infinitely more expensive. 😛

A while back my car made a low rumbling sound when I made slow left turns... turned out to be something with the suspension that could have caused a load of problems, but luckily I was able to get it fixed. The moral of the story kids: Listen to the OP and check out all odd noises coming from your car.

It's ok as long as the other one doesn't break. It's not liek there is a lot of force on them or anything. You could probably hold it in with a little duct tape.

Duct tape pretty much holds the world together, but I still wouldn't trust it to hold my engine onto my car's frame.

Would bondo be acceptable? You can use lots of it, like a whole gallon can. Better yet, duct tape covered with bondo. It's like cheap fiberglass.

You may be on to something.

Alternatively you could just cut the exhaust off. Solves that noise problem!

It's a good thing I was wearing my glasses when my sarcasm meter exploded.

Oh! Oh! that's even better! I like your out of the box thinking! Hey, what about using one of those PVC insulation slit foam insulation thingies they sell at lowes/Home depot for pipes? Then when the engine smacks the exaust it doesn't make that annoying 'clang' noise.

We use a lot of that tape in the small airplane repair business. On the single engine planes, it is 100 MPH tape.
On the twin engine planes, it is 200 MPH tape. It comes from the same roll, you just turn it over twice before applying to the multiengine aircraft.

Nah, forget it. That's not your only motor mount is it? you only need 1.

There's one at the back of the transmission, and since it is a jeep, it has another just before the output shaft on the transfer case. So only one of 4 broke. Quadruple redundancy, better than the space shuttle!

I had my drivers side front wheel fall off. that was a fun experience watching my wheel bounce across 4 lanes of traffic

I have a clunk that comes from the trunk when the rear wheels go over a speed bump.

going in on monday. The mechanics will love that I have a rhyming problem.
